Biography

Marco Cascio is a borgese (middle class), born and baptized on 11 October 1823. He is the son of Stefano Cascio and Carmela Streva. Marco is named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Giuseppe and Domenica Trumbatore.

He is confirmed in November 1829 in Corleone. His sponsor is Giuseppe Nuzzo (or maybe Russo).[1]

Marco marries at least twice, first to Biagia Streva, a widow, who is about eight years older than he, on 28 April 1851. His parents are both still living at this time. Marco and Biagia are fourth cousins.

Marco and Biagia have one known child, Salvatore (1856).

Salvatore is born 10 November 1856 and baptized Salvatorem the next day. His godparents are Francesco Cascio and Calogera Marino.

Biagia dies at age 45 (b. 1811) on 22 November, less than two weeks after Salvatore's birth.

Marco remarries less than three months later to Tommasina Cusimano, on 8 February 1857. By this time, Marco's father, Stefano, has died and his mother, Carmela, is still living.

Marco and Tommasina have at least six children together: Stefano (1858), Antonino (1860), Vincenzo (1862), Giuseppe (1865), two daughters named Maria Carmela (1867 and 1873), and Giovanni (1869).

Stefano is born 28 January 1858 and baptized the next day as Stephanum. His godparents are Vincenzo Labruzzo and Rosa Cusimano.

Antonino was born and baptized on 9 January 1860. His godfather is the unmarried Giuseppe Cusimano.

Vincenzo was born 6 December 1862 at 6 PM, and baptized Vincentium the following day. His godparents are Angelo Sabella and Sigismonda Palazzo.

Giuseppe is born 3 July 1865 and baptized Josephum the next day. His godparents are Biagio Marino and Luigia, his unmarried sister.

The first Maria Carmela is born 4 January 1867 and baptized the next day. In the baptismal record her mother's last name is spelled Guzmano. Her godfather is Giovanni Streva, unmarried.

Maria Carmela dies on 10 July 1867 at seven months of age.

Giovanni is born 26 November 1869 and baptized Joannem the next day. His godfather is Giovanni Canzoneri, who is unmarried.

Maria Carmela is born and baptized Mariam Carmelam on 9 November 1873. In this record, her mother's name is spelled Gusimano. Her godmother is Luigia Labruzzo, who is unmarried.

Salvatore, Marco's son with his first wife, marries Flaminia Salvatrice Tosco on 1 February 1882.

Stefano is killed at age 35 in 1893, identified in the death notice as a landowner, and celibe (bachelor).

Maria Carmela marries her first cousin, Stefano Cascio, on 27 September 1898. Her parents are both still living.

Antonino marries Rosalia di Miceli on 28 November 1906. This marriage record contains a dispensation, dated 16 November, required due to second and third degree consanguinity.[2] They are first cousins, once removed.

Marco dies on 8 February 1909 aged 85. His wife survives him.[3]
