Biography

Antonino Cascio, son of Marco Cascio and Tommasa Cusimano, marries his first cousin once removed Rosalia di Miceli, daughter of Bernardo di Miceli and Antonina Marino, on 28 November 1906. This marriage record contains a dispensation, dated 16 November, required due to second and third degree consanguinity.[1] One of the reasons the dispensation is granted is due to Rosalia's advanced age for marriage (33). [2] In addition, they are also half 2nd cousins through Rosalia Pennino and half 5th cousins twice removed through Antonina La Rosa.

Antonino and Rosalia have at least two children, Tommasa (1907) and Antonino (1909).

Tommasa is born in on 13 August 1907 and baptized on 17 August 1907, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godmother is her paternal aunt Carmela Cascio, wife of Stefano Cascio.[3]

Antonino is born on 1 January 1909 and baptized the same day. His godfather is Giuseppe Cascio (very likely his paternal uncle), who is single.[4]

Margin notes on both Tommasa and her future husband's baptismal records indicate they marry on 23 February 1936 in Corleone. Tommasa marries Dr. Michele Navarra, the notorious mafia leader.[5] A1962 Italian Senate hearing on the mafia confirms that Navarra is married to Antonino and Rosalia's daughter.[6]
