Biography

Stefano Cascio is born 2 October 1875 and baptized Stephanum the next day. He is the son of Salvatore Cascio and Calogera di Palermo, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Angelo Streva and Maria Teresa Francesca Triolo, a married couple.

Stefano's older cousin (b. 1858) of the same name is killed in 1893.

Stefano marries his late cousin's younger sister, Maria Carmela Cascio (b. 1873), on 27 September 1898. Second degree consanguinity is detected between the bride and groom, but then the word "Detecto" is crossed out and the word "Deleto" appears above it. Although Stefano and Maria Carmela are first cousins, there is no language here about receiving a dispensation for marriage. Instead, they are married with the verbal permission of Dean Ortoleva. One of the witnesses to the marriage is Giuseppe Catinella.

Stefano and Maria Carmela have at least one child, Salvatore (1899).

Salvatore is born 12 September 1899 and baptized 4 October, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Vincenzo Cascio and Giuseppa Avallone, a married couple.[1]

There are margin notes on his record: one is "confirmatus 1905 Panormi ex cirramento P Cascio Joseph." Possibly he is confirmed in Palermo. The other note on Salvatore's baptismal record indicates he marries on 11 May 1963, to Anna Maria Busolini, in the Santuario di Pompei, which is in Naples.[1]
