Biography

Rosalia Cascio is born 1 August 1821 and baptized the next day. She is the daughter of Stefano Cascio and Carmela Streva. Rosalia is named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Luciano and Lucia Labruzzo, a married couple.

Rosa (as she is called in this record) marries Biagio Jannazzo on 27 February 1843. Her parents are still living at this time.

Rosa and Biagio have at least seven children together: Luciano (1844), Maria Anna (1845), Stefano (1847), Paolo (1849),Lucia (1852), Antonina (1853), and Leoluchina (1855).

Maria Anna is born on 30 October 1845 and baptized two days later. Her godparents are Francesco Rotolo and Maddalena Sciortino, a married couple.

Luciano's birth record extract says that his father reported his birth on 14 January 1844, as opposed to his brother's, below, reported by the midwife. When Luciano is born, Biagio gives Rosalia's age as 33 (b. 1810), but she is closer to 23. Luciano is baptized the same day. His godparents are [Di_Miceli-56|Antonino di Miceli]] and Lucia Carrabba, a married couple.

Three years later, in via S. Lorenzo, Luciano's brother, Stefano is born and named after his maternal grandfather. According to Stefano's civil birth record extract, the midwife, Francesca Paola de Luna, gives his mother's age at the time of his birth, on 29 July 1847, as 26 (b. 1821). Biagio is 34 (b. 1813), aging just one year in three. Stefano's baptismal record appears in the 1871 matrimonial record. His godparents are Michaelangelo Marino and Gaetana Majuri, a married couple.

Paolo is born 3 August 1849 and baptized the next day.

Lucia is born and baptized on 26 August 1851.

On 12 September 1853, Biagio and Rosalia stand as godparents to Catharina Orlando, daughter of Salvatore Orlando and Maria Dino.

Antonina is born and baptized 17 December 1853.

On 18 December 1854, Biagio and Rosalia stand as godparents to Leoluca Giuffrida, son of Sebastiano Giuffrida and Domenica Vaccaro.[1]

Leoluchina is born 24 December 1855 and baptized the next day.

Antonina dies on 31 May 1856 at two and a half years of age.

Biagio dies at age 50 (b. 1811) on 23 December 1861. Rosa survives him.

Maria Anna marries Giuseppe Labruzzo on 3 October 1864. This marriage receives a dispensation due to consanguinity. It's not clear why. Biagio has died by this time.

There is evidence that Stefano marries twice, first in 1871 to Domenica Maria Colletti. Their baptismal records appear together on one certificate in the matrimonial records of the Church that year. It is unknown if this marriage is completed or if they have any children: the surnames Jannazzo and Colletti are outside the scope of my research. Cascio-10 12:07, 5 August 2014 (EDT)

Paolo marries twice, first to Maria Parrino, on 5 June 1872. At this time, Biagio has passed away, and his mother, who is called Rosa in this Church record, is still living.

Luciano appears in the 1872 civil marriage allegati, when he weds Angela Gennaro, daughter of Luciano and Lucia Cascio, Lucia's sister. Their Church marriage is documented on 9 September 1872. There is a dispensation granted for their marriage, due to consanguinuity. This record also calls Luciano's mother Rosa (rather than Rosalia) Cascio.

Leoluchina marries Bernardo Moscato on 10 February 1874.

Rosa dies at age 52 on 10 May 1874. By this time, her husband and father have passed away, but her mother is still living.

Stefano appears again in the 1875 civil marriage allegati, when he weds Maria Terranova. Maria's mother is also a Jannazzo.

Paolo remarries in 1906. This marriage record has some language about "illicit society."
