Biography

Stefano Jannazzo is the son of Rosalia Cascio, age 26 (b. 1821), and her husband Biagio Jannazzo, age 34 (b. 1813), agricola. He is born 29 July 1847 in his parents' home in via di Lorenzo Corleone. The birth is registered by the midwife, Francesca Paola de Luca, age 43.[1]

According to the baptismal record in the 1871 matrimonial records, Stefano is born and baptized on 30 July. His godparents are Michaelangelo Marino and Gaetana Majuri, a married couple. The baptismal records of Stefano Jannazzo and Domenica Maria Colletti appear together on one certificate in these matrimonial records.[2][3]

Open issue: There is another marriage recorded: according to the civil record, Stefano marries Maria Terranova in 1875. The birth record information in the first paragraph above are from the estratto in these marriage allegati. However, in this case, there is no publication in the allegati, so their marriage date is unconfirmed.

Open issues: This appears to be a preliminary to marriage, comparable to publishing banns in civil records. In most cases, I have found other evidence that the marriage is completed, such as subsequent baptisms of the children of the marrying couple, that call them jugales, or married. In at least one case I have found a woman who subsequently marries someone else and is called nubile, or a virgin, in that marriage record, indicating that the first documented union was not completed.

In this case, as in several others, the marriage is completed six years later, in 1877.

Stefano marries Domenica Maria Colletti, daughter of the late Vincenzo and living Serafina Liggio, on 5 July 1877. Stefano's parents have died by this time.[4]

Stefano and Maria Domenica have five known children: Biagio (1878), Rosalia (1881), Vincenzo (1883), Paola (1886), and Serafina Fortunata (1889).

Biagio is born 31 July 1878 and baptized on 3 August, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Don Gioachino Provenzano, represented by the procurator Salvatore Sangiorgi, from Palermo, and Donna Marietta Provenzano, Don Gioachino's daughter.[5]

Rosalia is born 16 February 1881 and baptized the next day, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godfather is Don Gaetano Provenzano, son of the late Don Salvatore.[6]

Vincenzo is born 28 September 1883 and baptized the next day, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Francesco la Torre and Marianna Cardella, a married couple.[7]

Paola is born 24 August 1886 and baptized the next day. Her godfather is Vincenzo Cascio, son of Marco, Paola's first cousin, once removed.[8]

Serafina Fortunata is born 19 February 1889 and baptized on the 23rd, named after her maternal grandmother. Her godfather is Salvatore Streva, who is unmarried.[9]

Rosalia dies unmarried, reportedly at the age of 15 (she is still 14) at her home on via Lombardia, 54 in December 1895. Her father Stefano, borgese, survives her. She is predeceased by her mother, Maria Domenica.[10]

Stefano dies at age 58 on 3 June 1905. His death record only mentions that he is the widower of Maria Domenica Colletti.[11]

Vincenzo marries Bernarda Milone on 27 February 1911.[12]

Biagio marries Giuseppa Lisotta on 26 April 1911.[13]

Paola marries Stefano Labruzzo on 15 February 1912.[14]
