About Us

The England project is a big project with nearly 400 members. all of whom have an interest in English genealogy. You can find out more about us on our England Project Welcome Page. Our members work in teams and this page is to help people new to the project to find their way around, and identify where to look and which people they need to contact when they have questions. It will also help our Orphan Trail Graduates to identify which team they would like to join.

Roles

All our members are important but so that the project works well people are given different roles and responsibilities. These are some of the roles that you will come across.

  1. Project Leaders are members who have shown leadership skills and been recognised for the work that they have done on WikiTree. They are given special powers and ongoing responsibilities. The England Project Leaders work as a team to ensure the smooth running of the Project. Some of our England Leaders also lead other projects.
  2. Project Co-ordinators in the England Project are members who lead a particular part of the project, but do not have formal project leader status. Some lead a group of teams, and others take on a specific role that is needed to ensure the project works well.
  3. Team Leaders lead a group of members who work together on a specific area within the England Project.
  4. Regional Co-ordinators. This is a role that is peculiar to the England Project. Our Regional Co-ordinators are team leaders who take the extra responsibility of co-ordinating the work of a group of county teams.
  5. Trailblazers are volunteers who help new project members develop the core skills to contribute to the project’s goals. Within WikiTree they are given the status of Trail Guide
  6. Team Captains are members who lead or co-lead a team in WikiTree Challenges.
  7. Topic Managers are members who take a lead role in organising the work on a specific topic. They are unique to our Topics Team.

Contact Joan Whitaker, Lizzie Griffiths, or Maddy Hardman, who run the Disasters Project. I think Joan especially runs the Mining Disasters...

Hi Steve

I’m thinking you’ve already had a look through the inquests on Forest-of-Dean.net. Also Nicola at the Heritage Centre has a library full of information and a circle of volunteer helpers who are really knowledgeable about the mining incidents. I’d email her and ask if they have anything. Use the email address in their website . Do you have a profile for your G grandfather? All the best, Alison
