Goal

The goal of the Oxfordshire Team is to make all Oxfordshire profiles the best that they can be. It is our desire to leave a lasting legacy of work for future generations and current researchers that can facilitate their quest for family history, and bring them one step closer to discovering the myriad of people it has taken for them to draw breath.

Topics

In order to achieve our goal, there are a number of things we are currently working on:

I note there is no category for Over Norton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over_Norton). In terms of the established Church, pretty much everything happened at Chipping Norton, although it does have a Baptist church. Would it be okay to add a category for Over Norton, or failing that, add it as a sub-category of Chipping Norton?

Similarly Broadwell, Oxfordshire is also missing.

How do I go about getting a category for the Goring Cemetery, Goring, South Oxfordshire? I cannot figure out how to fill in the request form for this one. (I think my brain is fried.) "Bomber" Harris's ashes were inurned there, and I'd like to have him properly categorised.

For that matter, there doesn't appear to be a category for Goring-on-Thames (his listed place of death), just Goring. Is this the same place?

Hi Melanie

Goring and Goring-on-Thames are the same place. I can see the Cemetery under Goring.

Yeah . . I kind of figure that out after I posted here, but got rather rabbit-holed and forgot to come back and say so / delete my comment.

Cemetery category was created after I posted here - thanks to Steve Harris.  :) (He also added the category to other profiles he found - so. bonus!)

Hi Team,

I'm working on an exercise to go through all the profiles on Wikitree with a birth, marriage or death location of Oxfordshire and adding maintenance categories. If you find yourself with some time on your hands, and want to help improve the quality of the profiles for this country, please go and have a look at the different categories here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Oxfordshire%2C_Maintenance_Categories and see what you can clean up. Please remember to remove the maintenance category when you have made the update.

Thanks Sarah

Our very large family in Australia has family connections going back to to Faringdon.

One of our ancestors was John Ware https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ware-3882

Our Australian family is to hold a Ware - Wilson Reunion in Victoria - now delayed because of Covid-19. Details https://warewilsonreunion.art.blog/

We have visited Faringdon - and the excellent Faringdon & District Archaeological & Historical Society - but were not able to discover anything of the family history.

Appreciate any information if WikiTree-ers come across relating to the Ware, or connected families, from Oxfordshire. (Ware, King, Crowdy, Warren families circa - early to mid 1800's)

Just to let you know I have started working on getting the profiles of all the people living in Hanborough on the 1841 census onto wikitree. So if you are noticing these popping up in the unconnected profiles that is because I have only started this in the past couple of weeks and will be working on getting the connections sorted out once I get them all on. My aim is to get all the people in registers and the censuses for Hanborough on to wikitree but I think this may take a while!

I have been tackling some of the unsourced profiles for Oxfordshire today - but dont seem to see a status button on the unsourced list to note which ones i have done. Should there be one?
