Hi Jemima,

Thank you for correcting the data re HUMPHREYS - I am new to WikiTree and did not fill in the piece correctly. Are we related? Christopher HUMPHREYS is a great-grandfather - he came to NZ in 1908 with his daughter - Annie Laurie H (Mrs Leonard HARLEY}. William Henry (Bill) is a grandfather and he married Hilda Elizabeth HARLEY in 1908 at Riverton, Southland, New Zealand.

Hi Beryl,

Thanks for your message. You can see your connection to everyone else on wikitree by scrolling to the bottom of a profile and clicking the 'your connection' link. We are not related, but I found your Worcestershire profiles as I am the team leader for Worcestershire. I've added sources to some of them, and also noticed that https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/HOPKINS-21086 is a duplicate profile and needs merging. Please can you complete the merge (at the bottom of the profile) or accept the trusted list request I sent so that I can do it? Many thanks, Jemima

Jemima, interesting that you posted about Manderson's when your name is Winder. I am a Manderson (with 8 Manderson siblings) and my wife is a Winder. Gwen was born in Cape Breton Nova Scotia and is decended on her mothers side from the Barra MacNeil clan and on her fathers side from somewhere in the north west of England we believe. My family are from the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area and we trace our ancestery back to the Lothian part of Scotland south east of Edinburgh.

That's interesting. Are any of your wife's ancestors on wikitree? I'd love to see if we share any..
posted by Jemima Winder
As far as I know they are not but we do have some information that I will try to get posted this winter; Gwen (Gwendolyn) and her sister Mona (Ramona) are talking about of looking up both sides of their family but not sure that has moved very far. I will let you know if anything happens. Cheers, Glenn

OK great. I don't mind having a quick look if you pass over some basic information about their parents.

Jemima, I found that there is not too much of the information on line for the Winder side but I xcan tell you that Gwen's Dad was Wayne Edward Winder and I believe he and his brother were both born in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada (near Sarnia). He was born in 1934 on November 16th and died in 1969 on October 16th in a car crash in Alberta leaving behind his wife and four children. There were three girls: Gwen, Brenda and Mona. Also, the youngest was a son who was only two at the time and he is Bruce Edward Winder who has two Winder daughters. I know I have heard that there is more Winder information but I do not have it at my finger tips but am happy to share when and if I get my hands on it. On a side note, how did you discover the connection to the Manderson name?

Hello Jemima,

WikiTree keeps mentioning you to me because (I'm assuming) you are adding to Hutton's in Worcestershire and I'm following Hutton. However I don't think your Hutton's have any connection to my ancestors (who are from Perthshire). However I did recently add a Winder to my family tree (Winder-1119). Again, it's probably just coincidence, but interesting to note (to me at least 😀).

Cheers, Bob Hutton (Hutton-2694).

Hi Bob,

thanks for messaging me - I think it's the first time I've come across a Winder in Australia. I wonder where her family came from.

The Branches Team came second and the Roots Team came forth in the overall scores. Both teams were also in the top ten in the normalised scores. I hope you enjoyed it and will be joining us in April when we do it all over again.

Hi, I'd love to but I'm going to be really busy this weekend. I just hope the next challenge is over a weekend where the kids are with their dad!

Yes thanks. I am working with new leaders of the Lancashire and London teams to figure out how to make sense of the statistics though it feels a bit like the blind leading the blind at the moment! Also, there only seems to be one other active member of the team at the moment so I would welcome some more members.

Hi Jemina,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles that you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi Jemima,

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a while now, I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To been helpful, or left you with any questions? Let me know if you need any tips to help you get more of your family members added. Thanks for sharing your family pictures. They really bring your family profiles to life!

I am here to help with any problems or concerns you may have. To contact me, log into WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment so that I will be notified. PS Thanks for your contributions so far! Please do return to the profiles you create to add more biographical details and sources -- this is the best way to create an interesting, accurate, and well-rounded story of your family. The easiest way to find info and sources is to use the handy RootsSearch link on the right side of any profile. Use your WikiTree login to access over 20 websites. Once you find a correct source, copy and paste the citation info and add it to the profile. Learn more about sources here. You may be interested in checking out the resources of the England project. The England project has an excellent self-paced course called the Orphan Trail that provides valuable tips on finding sources and formatting English profiles. You can also find other projects that suit other areas of your research.

Hi Peggy,

Thanks for your message - I am already addicted to wikitree! I have had a go at searching the free records available on familytree, but would be keen to learn how to go back further without having to pay lots of money. Is joining the England project Orphan trail the best way to learn how to do this?

best wishes, Jemima

Hi again, Jemima,

Yes, absolutely. The England project's orphan trail is great. I learned a lot when I did it and the project members are really nice and helpful.

Drop me a note anytime!

Hi Jemima and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

Hi Pam,

I just tried adding my mum, which seems to have worked, except she received the email below which suggests she is the mother of herself! Why is this?

thanks, Jemima

HI Jemima,

I'm not sure why the message is phrased like that, it does seem odd and I'm sorry for any confusion. If I look at your mom's profile now it all seems to be in order now, is this the case?

Let me know if you're still having problems.

Yes, it looks ok, except my mum is not happy with having her date of birth visible. I've tried selecting the 'blank for extra privacy' radio button but it still shows, and it's not letting me delete the date. What am I doing wrong?
posted by Jemima Winder
Hi Jemima,

You're not doing anything wrong, don't worry. It's because your pages look different to you than they do to everyone else. To see what other people see click the "public view" tab:

Profile (public view)

To return to your normal view click return to private view.

Return to Private View

Here's the help page that explains the different levels of privacy: Privacy Levels.

If your mom is still concerned and she isn't actively contributing to wikitree you can set her profile to the unlisted privacy setting, or perhaps another that she is more comfortable with.

I hope this helps, but if you still have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kindest regards
