Alexander Mosley was born on Gibraltar on January 11, 1847. He was the eldest child of Thomas Mosley and Eliza Shea Mosley. He was also baptized on Gibraltar on February 8, 1847.
The UK census data for 1851 and 1861 show Alexander living with his parents and siblings near Manchester, Lancashire, after the death of Alexander's uncle, William Mosley, and then his cousin, George Mosley, had brought his father back to England from Gibraltar for business reasons (and probably made his stay longer than he had expected).
By 1865, Alexander had (presumably) returned to Gibraltar with his parents, and on November 17, 1880, he was married to Maria de las Mercedes Francia on Gibraltar. They were to have five children by about 1892. Alexander was the only one of his father's four children to have offspring of their own.
By the turn of the century, Alexander had completed the transformation of his father's original firm of "Merchants" into a banking and financial enterprise known as Messrs. Thomas Mosley & Co. He also became a Justice of the Peace and a highly regarded figure in the business and social life of Gibraltar -- for more, see his obituary (in Sources, below).
On March 26, 1901, Alexander was appointed a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) by King Edward VII, and on January 1, 1926, Alexander was awarded a knighthood (KCMG) by King George V in the New Year's Honors list for that year.
Sir Alexander passed away on April 17, 1927, in Campamento, Spain. His wife Maria would survive him by 20+ years.
