Any Ideas on this discrepancy raised by James Heald

On 22 Jan 2020 James Heald wrote on Pateshull-6:

According to Stow's "Survey of London" (1598), in his section on the monuments of Blackfriars, Sibyl was the daughter of William de Pateshull, rather than John de Pateshull: https://mapoflondon.uvic.ca/stow_1598_FARR1.htm?showDraft=true p.276 However, both the old DNB https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Pateshull,_Simon_de_(d.1274)_(DNB00) and the modern DNB https://www.oxforddnb.com/view/10.1093/ref:odnb/9780198614128.001.0001/odnb-9780198614128-e-21545#odnb-9780198614128-e-21545 say that she was the son of John, and inherited from a brother William who died childless.

I'm guessing Stow made a mistake, given the statement of the IPM.  But thoughts welcome.

It's not uncommon to find that early authors assumed inheritance from father to child, when in fact it was younger sibling from older. Given how common the latter situation was, it is surprising, to me anyway, that the authors were not more alert to the possibility. But then I think of the labour that went into their research, no indexed volumes and the like, and I'm just grateful we have the benefit of their work even if it does contain mistakes.
