Biography

In October 1359 when the Inquisitions Post Mortem were taken following the death of her brother Sir William, Sybil the wife of Sir Roger de Beauchaump (sic) was said to be 20 years and older.^[1] This puts her birth in late 1338 or 1339.

Research Notes

1 - Birth Year: Richardson's Royal Ancestry has "about 1319 (aged 40 in 1359)".^[2] It should be noted that 1338 or 1339 is based on her being 20 in 1359, but the text (above) says "20 years and older" [emphasis added]. In addition, the son of Sibyl an Roger is thought to have been born about 1337 or 1338:

2 - : Roger de Beauchamp, son and heir apparent of Roger de Beauchamp by his wife Sibyl de Pateshulle,^[3] was probably born in 1337 or 1338: Roger and Sibyl were married before 15 March 1337, Sibyl would have been 18 in 1337 (aged 40 in 1359), and his younger brother Philip was born 1338-9 (aged 14 in 1353, aged 23 in 1361).^[2]

3 - According to Stow's "Survey of London" (1598), in his section on the monuments of Blackfriars, Sibyl was the daughter of William de Pateshull, rather than John de Pateshull: https://mapoflondon.uvic.ca/stow_1598_FARR1.htm?showDraft=true p.276

However, both the old DNB https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Pateshull,_Simon_de_(d.1274)_(DNB00) and the modern DNB https://www.oxforddnb.com/view/10.1093/ref:odnb/9780198614128.001.0001/odnb-9780198614128-e-21545#odnb-9780198614128-e-21545 say that she was the son of John, and inherited from a brother William who died childless.
