My family is reputed to have emigrated from Holland to England in 1621 to drain low-lying land at Canvey Island, Leigh and Fobbing in Essex and possibly to escape from religious persection. Often, some siblings in a family had different spellings to their surname recorded, eg Jiggins, Jiggens, Jigens, jegins, Jiggons, Giggins, Jeggins, Jeggons, Jenkyns, Jenkins, but all verifiable as being in the same family. I am unable to get back further than Thomas Jiggins, b.1761 in Rayne, Essex, England.
