Marguerite Cormier is a descendant of an Acadian

Marguerite Cormier was born 17 December 1826 in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, the daughter of Fidèle Cormier and Hélène Breau.^[1][2]

She married Joseph Williams dit Bristol on 23 January 1849 in Bouctouche.^[3][4] Their children were:

In the 1861 census, Margret (age 35) lived in Dundas with her husband Joseph (36) and children Auriet (11), Dosita (10), Fardeneau (8), Fidel (7), John (6), Deneau (5), Joseph (4), Delfine (2) and Domatiel (2).^[6]

In the 1871 census, Marguerite (age 44) lived in Dundas with with her husband Joseph and nine children: Henriette, Fidele, Jean, Dina, Joseph, Delphine, Domitile, Emelie, and Marie G.^[7]

In the 1881 census, Marguerite (age 53) lived in Dundas with her husband and four of their children: Dina, Dometilde, Emilie, and Genevieve.^[8]

In the 1891 census, Marguerite (age 68) lived in Dundas with her husband Joseph (65) and daughter Marie Genevieve (18).^[9]

She passed away before the 1901 census, where her husband Joseph is listed as a widower.

Research Notes

Marguerite's marriage record doesn't give their parents' names. Census records give her year of birth between 1823 and 1828 in New Brunswick. There were two Marguerite Cormiers born in Kent County in these dates, but the other Marguerite (daughter of Denis Cormier and Marie Luce Girouard) died at 3 months old.

The most likely matching baptism is Marguerite Cormier born Dec 17, 1826 in Bouctouche. The witness in her marriage record is Moise Cormier, who would be Marguerite's uncle. He lived in Bouctouche at the time. Marguerite also named one of her sons Fidele, possibly after her father.

Additionally, in the baptism record of her first child Henriette the godparents are Fidèle Cormier (Marguerite's father) and Scholastique Cormier (either Marguerite's sister or aunt).
