Maestro Leoluca lo Cascio is born and baptized on 19 August 1834. He is the son of Maestro Carmelo lo Cascio and Pietra Bordonaro. Leoluca is named after his paternal uncle. His godparents are Maestro Gioachino and Rosa Frisella, a married couple.
Leoluca is a falegname (joiner/carpenter). He marries at least twice, to sisters Giuseppa and Lucia.
Leoluca and his first wife, Giuseppa Raja, marry on 23 February 1865. Leoluca's father, Carmelo, has died by this time, and his mother, Pietra, is still living.
Leoluca and Giuseppa have three sons named Carmelo (1865, 1869, and 1870) and a daughter named Maria Concetta Bernarda (1867).
Carmelo, named after his paternal grandfather, is born 13 November 1865. He is baptized the following day, Carmelum. His godfather is Serafino de Luca, who is unmarried.
He dies on 13 March 1866 at four months of age.
Maria Concetta Bernarda is born 31 January 1867 and baptized 1 February. This record calls her father a maestro. Her godparents are Francesco Milone and Francesca Cascio.
The second son named Carmelo is born 9 February 1869 and baptized Carmelum the next day. His godparents are Giovanni Cardella and Domenica Gagliardo. Carmelo dies at a month of age, on 5 March.
The third son named Carmelo is born 22 April 1870 and baptized the next day as Carmelum. Like his brother born the previous year, his godparents are Joannes Cardella and Dominica Gagliardo.
Giuseppa dies at age 28 (b. 1843) on 28 July 1871. Her husband and her mother survive her.
Carmelo dies at age five, on 13 February 1875.
Leoluca marries Lucia Raja on 28 February 1876. This marriage has received a dispensation. Although the record does not specify the nature of the reason a dispensation is needed, it is because his late and present wives are sisters.
Leoluca and Lucia have at least six children together: Carmelo (1877), Pietra (1878), two daughters named Bernarda (1881 and 1884), Salvatore (1887), and Maria Antonia (1889).
The first known child of Leoluca and Lucia is Leoluca's fourth son named Carmelo. He is born 16 April 1877 and baptized two days later. His godfather is Giuseppe Vinci, who is unmarried.
Pietra is born and baptized 17 November 1878. Her godparents are Antonino lo Cascio and Pietra, his unmarried daughter.
Leoluca's mother dies in 1879.
Leoluca and Lucia's first daughter to be named Bernarda is born on 25 August 1881 and baptized 28 August as Bernardam. Her godfather is Vincenzo Labbruzzo. Bernarda dies at one year and five months of age on 9 February 1883.
The second daughter named Bernarda is born 4 October 1884. Her civil birth record identifies her father as Leoluca Lo Cascio, age 46 (he is actually 50), a falegname by occupation. Her mother is identified as Lucia Raja, a housewife (no age given). Bernarda is baptized the same day. Her godmother is Carmela Cascio, who is unmarried.
Salvatore is born 1 February 1887 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Concettos Birtone and Angela Cascio.
Salvatore dies at six months and eleven days of age on 12 August 1887.
Maria Concetta Bernarda Pietra, as she is now called, marries Mariano Antonino Mancuso on 29 April 1889. Her father, Leoluca, is still living.
Maria Antonia is born 1 April 1889 and baptized the next day. Her godmother is Giacinta Mancuso, who is unmarried.
Carmelo marries Biagia Biondo on 10 November 1902. Leoluca and Lucia are both still living.
Pietra marries Vincenzo Puimolino on 26 November 1906. Her mother has died by this time.[1]
Leoluca dies a widower aged 73 on 15 April 1907. [2]
Two months later, Antonia, Pietra, and Pietra's husband immigrate to the United States together. Passengers from Corleone arriving 10 June 1907 in New York on the S.S. Nord-America, sailing from Palermo 25 May 1907 include:
