Biography

Carmelo Cascio is born in Corleone on 16 April 1877 and baptized two days later. He is the son of Leoluca Cascio and Lucia Raja. His godfather is Giuseppe Vinci, who is unmarried.[1]

Carmelo is named after his paternal grandfather. His father ,has named three previous sons Carmelo, in his first marriage. The last died at age 5 in 1875.

Like his father, the maestro, Carmelo is a carpenter by trade.

Carmelo marries Biagia Biondo on 10 November 1902. Leoluca and Lucia are both still living.[2]

Carmelo and Biagia have at least four children: Lucia (1903), Carmela (1905), Leoluca (1907), and Andrea (1909).

Lucia is born 26 September 1903 and baptized 4 October. Her godfather is Salvatore Misuraca, who is unmarried.[3]

Carmela is born 5 February 1905 and baptized on 18 February. Her godparents are Antonino Sancetta and Bernarda Puccio, a married couple.[4]

Leoluca is born on 21 June 1907 and baptized on 1 July 1907. His godparents are Mercurio Buccheri and Francesca Napoli, a married couple.[5]

Andrea is born on 21 July 1909.[6]

After Bernardino Verro's assassination on 3 November 1915, the "Socialist carpenter" Carmelo lo Cascio replaces Verro as mayor of Corleone.[7]

Lucia marries Alfredo Staderelli, of unknown parents, from Palermo, on 18 February 1928 in Corleone.[8]

Leoluca marries Vincenza Pomara on 4 October 1931.[9]

The margin notes indicate Andrea, the son, marries Anna Ciulla in Bisacquino on 29 October 1949.[6]
