Lucia Raja is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Salvatore Raja and Bernarda Paternostro. Leoluca's age is given on the one civil birth record found for this family, for an estimated birth year of 1838.
Lucia is the second wife of Leoluca Cascio, marrying on 28 February 1876. His first wife is Giuseppa Raja, who is Lucia's sister. Lucia and Leoluca's marriage includes a dispensation for this reason.
Lucia and Leoluca have at least six children together: Carmelo (1877), Pietra (1878), two daughters named Bernarda (1881 and 1884), Salvatore (1887), and Maria Antonia (1889).
Leoluca is recorded with the surname lo Cascio in the records of his daughters' births, but on the baptismal records of his sons, it is given as Cascio.
Carmelo, the first known child of Leoluca and Lucia, is born 16 April 1877 and baptized two days later, named after his paternal grandfather. He is the fourth known child of Leoluca to be named Carmelo: the first three, born to Giuseppa, have all died by this time. Carmelo's godfather is Giuseppe Vinci, who is unmarried.
Pietra is born and baptized 17 November 1878. Her godparents are Antonino lo Cascio and Petra, his unmarried daughter.
The first daughter named Bernarda is born on 25 August 1881 and baptized 28 August as Bernardam. Her godfather is Vincenzo Labbruzzo.
She dies at one year and five months of age on 9 February 1883.
The second daughter named Bernarda, for whom both a civil birth record and a baptismal record have been found, is born 4 October 1884. Bernarda is baptized the same day. Her godmother is Carmela Cascio, who is unmarried.
Salvatore is born 1 February 1887 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Conceptus Birtone and Angela Cascio.
Salvatore dies at six months and eleven days of age on 12 August 1887.
Maria Antonia is born 1 April 1889 and baptized the next day. Her godmother is Giacinta Mancuso, who is unmarried.
Carmelo marries Biagia Biondo on 10 November 1902. Leoluca and Lucia are both still living.
Pietra marries Vincenzo Puimolino on 26 November 1906. Her mother has died by this time.[1]
Lucia dies aged 57 on 26 March 1906. Her husband Leoluca survives her.[2]
Leoluca, dies aged 73 on 15 April 1907. [3]
That summer, Pietra, her husband, and her sister, Antonia, immigrate to the United States. Passengers from Corleone arriving 10 June 1907 in New York on the S.S. Nord-America, sailing from Palermo 25 May 1907 include:
