John Baucom's will named his wife Rachel; it does not mention a maiden name. No proven source has been found for her maiden or middle name.
Initially Rachel Barker born Baltimore MD was supposed to have married John Baucom son of Nicholas Baucom at Baltimore MD, Later hundreds have posted that she was Rachel Petrie Barker b 1727 at Baltimore MD. Her unmarried parents were Robert Barker and Jane Meggott who returned to England where they were married 1756 29 years after Rachel was born in MD. Then they returned to MD where the died. Impossible !!!
Nicholas and son John who were in NC by 1742 where Nicholas acquired land. John, would have to make a 600 mile round trip by horseback or hiking to marry Rachel Barker in 1754.
Y DNA has proven the John Baucom that married Rachel was not the son of Nicholas, John Baucom son of James Baucom and Frances from England, married a local girl, Rachel unknown.
Jim Baucom's Y DNA project proved that this John Baucom was NO KIN to Nicholas. John's parents were reported to be James Baucom and Frances Drake who came from England to NC. For more information on this, contact [[Baucom-233
