Cader Baucom was born about 1776 in North Carolina.
Source: Age and birth location from 1850 Census[1]

His parents were John Baucom and Rachel unknown. Source: Last Will & Testament of John Baughcom, 19 Aug 1797, names wife and children.[2]
Note: The name is written as John Baughcom in the body of the document. When signing, John used the spelling Baucom.

Cader, along with his brother Reese, signed a bond on July 31, 1797 in Wake County, North Carolina, in anticipation of his marriage to Susannah Fowler.
Source: 1797 Marriage Bond in Wake County, North Carolina[3]

The couple is said to have had at least seven children together:

  1. Nancy Baucom
  2. Wilson Baucom
  3. Susannah Baucom
  4. Charlotte Baucom
  5. Cader Baucom
  6. John Monroe Baucom
  7. Willis Baucom

Research Notes by Jim Baucom
The Abstracts of Early Deeds of Wake Co., NC states that on 15 July 1800 Cader Baucom sold 120 acres of land to his brother, Lewis Baucom and that Claiborne Fowler was a witness to the transaction. ( Found in Banks McLaurin Baucom book)

Cader Baucom died in 1852 in Williamson Co. TN
Source: 1852 Court record in Williamson County, Tennessee found in the Franklin Co, TN public library which states: $5 was awarded to a man who built a coffin for Cader Baucom, a pauper.

The names of Cader Baucom and Susannah Fowler's children were found in trees at ancestry.
Possible records:
Too poor for Probate for Cader Baucom and or Susannah (Fowler) Baucom
Obituary for Cader Baucom, Susannah Baucom not found.

TWO CADER BAUCOMS in 1820 Williamson Co. TN Census. Many years ago Heritage Quest offered free on line access to US census records to members of some public libraries. They indexed TWO different Cader Baucoms in 1820 Williamson Co., TN census; both indexed as Bankum at Herritage Quest but it is clearly Baukum.: P 157 Cader Baukum m 111110 f 31010 (NOTE The ages of this Cader and his children match Susannah Fowler's husband) P 173 Cader Baukum m 200201 f 01010 (Never Found again) Neither Ancestry nor the LDS records even show a page 173 for some reason. This is clearly two different families. No other record has been found for the elder Cader. My speculation is that P173 Cader was the son of Ransom Baucom, brother of John who was Cader P157.

1830 Williamson Co., TN census ; Only the younger Cader was found and he was not found in 1840 census. I 125 of 208

1840 No Cader Baucoms in TN

1850 WM. Co TN census P 231
Head J Sutton 38 KY
C Sutton 34 NC wife ( Charolette Baucom daughter of Cader)
C. Baucom 74 NC, (matches 1776-7 for Susannah's husband)

1852 Williamson Co., TN court record found at Franklin, TN public Library:
Orders the county to pay $5 to a man who made a coffin for Cader Baucom, a pauper.

Good Afternoon Jim,

Cader is coming up on the error report for the gedcom import needing to be cleaned up. I wanted to touch base before diving in to confirm that you're still OK with me working on profiles that you manage.

There is a C Baucom, age 74 born NC, on the 1850 Williamson Co., TN census; he living with a Sutton family (possibly a daughter's family?). I've noticed other researchers show census as being this as Cader Baucom. Has anyone else made this connection? Has anyone found any probate/land records for this C Baucom? I'm trying to connect him to my John Baucom (1801-1878).
