Biography
Jemima Baucom is said to have been born in 1768 in Wake County, North Carolina, USA.[1] The state and country did not exist at that time, being instead called the Province of North Carolina from 1712-1776.[2] Wake County was formed in 1771 from portions of Cumberland, Johnston, and Orange Counties.[3]
Jemima Brannan was named as a daughter in the Aug 1797 Last Will and Testament of John Baughcom. The will was proved during the Wake County, North Carolina, June session 1800 and ordered to be recorded. Jemima and several of her siblings were given "five shillings Lawful Money and no more."[4]
