Translation for Einbenennung

In German law there is the possibility of Einbenennung.

Example:

Miss Born marries Mister Adam, and they take the name Adam for the couple and all children.

They get the son Anton Adam.

The father dies and the widow marries Mr. Chester.

If Anton Adam gets the name Anton Chester after his stepfather without adoption, then he is "einbenannt". This is "Einbenennung".

What are best English words for "Einbenennung" and "einbenannt"?

Einbenennung is regulated in §1618 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch)

The official translation you find here:

The section Einbenennung is translated "Bringing a child under a family name"

I checked the article just on that web site, but I didn't know that they have English translations. laugh

But "Bringing a child under a family name" is an awkward translation for "Einbenennung".

Or: The child is "einbenannt". –> The child was brought under a (the?) family name.

What do you think about "in-naming" and "in-named"?

The child is in-named.

It appears that this could be described as "the child's surname was changed to the family name of the mother's new husband" or "the child took the stepfather's family name." This happens rather often in the United States (especially when the child is very young when the mother marries the new husband), but I have never heard of an English word for it.
