Calling all DAR daughters

I am really excited to announce that we have now gotten permission to use stickers for ourselves and our DAR approved ancestors. I think we should challenge ourselves to find as many patriot ancestors as we can on WikiTree by the first of the new year. Here is what we can do:

This has been approved at the national level, and the Team is excited as well to see what we can do. You can start your post with an answer below, then add the profiles you work on under your answer.

Is there a prize? We will all be "winners" of this competition, and the prize is that we once again get to rise and shine in 2020. Additionally, I would love to see all daughters add the amazing new Society Member sticker to your own profile (thank you Steve Harris!!!). I am proudly wearing it on mine now. Let's see how much we can get done!

I added the sticker to my sister but her name doesn't show in the sticker, as your does.
Making use of this!!!  Here is my example.

That looks great Ed!
Ed's Cochran-4517 patriot profile really is well done. Thank you, Mindy, for spearheading the DAR sticker and recognition effort. In DAR friendship, Marion
Just to be certain, they specifically approved the use of their logo? Everything I’ve known about DAR while I was a member is that the logo is protected outside of official functions.

Just recently I’ve had several stickers added to profiles I manage and was shocked to see the logo in use given everything I know of DAR. The only discussions on G2G are about the use of ancestor/national numbers but the logo is something else entirely.
Pattie, thank you for being careful about using DAR-originated logos, including the one in current use on the sticker. It seems to me that Mindy has permission from the DAR to use the logo, but who in the DAR would have the authority to give permission? Short of the President General, I don't know the answer to that. Maybe Mindy can enlighten us on the official position of the Daughter who gave WikiTree permission. The DAR most likely has a specific procedure to follow to get permissions like this – a committee or a designated officer – given how well organized the DAR is. In DAR friendship, Marion.

Here you go. Straight from the president.

https://blog.dar.org/dar-introduces-refreshed-logo-and-accompanying-style-guide

It does help promote the use and publicity of DAR.

Pattie, I worked with high-level DAR employees to make sure that we were representing them fitting within their guidelines. I am so thrilled that they allow this now. I'm a proud daughter myself.
Thank you Mindy! I am glad they have given permission for the logo!
Thank you, Ed, for the DAR logo URL.

Thank you Mindy, and thank you Steve Harris.

I added it to my profile and two grand aunts, and a cousin once removed. We will have a DAR meeting on Zoom today, so it will give me a chance to tell others about WikiTree and the sticker.

Thank you Susan for your vote. I admire so many things about you. You are amazing, even though you don’t live in the United States; you are interested in things like the Daughters of the American Revolutionary War.

This is great news!

We need to change all the existing DAR template over to the new sticker, also.

Profiles currently using the existing / old template DAR-grs

This sticker will not replace all of the source citations that point to DAR-grs. A sticker is not a source citation.

I am acutely aware of this after having run across some profiles earlier today that were sourced only to Source S137, which I eventually determined (from a family member profile) was a DAR database entry. After replacing the source citations with the DAR-grs template, and adding the sticker to the profile for the patriot ancestor Winne-99. These people still need some decent sources, but when they only have the DAR database as a source, the sticker alone does not do the job!

I have verified that the Ancestor number in the sticker does give the same link that we got from the DAR-grs template, but I also realized that we lost the source which we probably need in profiles.

Thank you so much Mindy.  This is wonderful!

I have added the stickers to my profile and to my patriot's profile, George Holt, Holt-1977.  I see that his profile needs a lot of TLC!

I seemed to have missed this post when it came out in November. Great job, Mindy! Glad to see the changes, Mindy and Steve!

I'm not a member of DAR (obviously), however, I have had a side project for a number of years to see how many patriot ancestors my kids have, on both sides. My ex-wife's grandmother was also a member of DAR.

I now have 33 ancestor profiles to go update. ;-)

Thank you, Mindy for this information. I have added the DAR sticker to a few profiles. Don't forget that SAR, Masonic and Odd Fellow membership stickers are also available on the Society Membership Sticker page.

One way I have found Revolutionary War Patriots that I have been able to add the DAR Sticker is to use these Patriots:

At the same time correct the 1776 Sticker.

How do I add this to my profile? I'm sorry I am still new to Wikitree.

Thank you,

Shonie Hartley Wahl
by Shonie Wahl G2G6 (6.2k points)
Hi Shonie, glad to see you have joined WikiTree. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Under your  biography, add:

{{Society Member|society=DAR|living=yes}}   This should give you the DAR sticker.
Thank you Alexis,

I guess I still have not really figured out how to use Wiki because I didn't get it to work for me.

Shonie
Shonie, I am sorry it did not work for you. Maybe I can help you connect to your DAR Ancestor, and then we can go from there. You are doing a great job of adding your family, so this will all get easier.

That is ok; technical issues and I are not friends.  I would love help connecting me to my Patriot.  I think I'm on the right track with him, it is just making sure everyone connects to me; you know how that goes.  I also use Ancestry and have much more of my tree on it because I have been using it for years, I have just recently found Wikitree. What would you need from me?

Thank you again,     Shonie Hartley Wahl

Shonie, I have found that the majority of the DAR Patriots have a profile of WikiTree. What is his name? If it is a common name, it would help to have his number. I love to work on Patriot profiles. I have gotten two friends into DAR by working on WikiTree, and I plan to do two more this month.
His name is William Walter Nichols he was b. 1765 in Anson N.C. and d. 26 May 1838 Moulton, AL
I think I have linked myself all the way to him; however, I can't find the documents to prove his son.
Shonie, I think you are connected now, and you have added the 1880 census on Roxie Nichols’ profile.
I've fixed that Shonie. Welcome!!
