Help finding DAR Ancestor #'s

Good Morning All,

I am hoping that one of the wonderful DAR ladies might be able to find an Ancestor # for this profile? I have already tried running the names and dates through the DAR site but with no results. Actually, if there is someone that is a  "DAR" expert (point of contact) I have a number (17 or 18) of profiles that I need help with and have Questions about?

You can go on the DAR website and use their databases. No log-in or memberships required. You can also purchase copies of the applications and supplemental data from the website. I have done this, and the system works quite well.

Dear Jeff,

If there is no entry in the DAR patriot database "Ancestor", there is no number for the person.  No Eleazer French is recognized there.

This may mean that his patriot service cannot be proven to the satisfaction of NSDAR.  But more likely, there are no descendants who have made the effort to join the Society.  As far as I know, patriot ancestors are only recognized when someone joins under their lineage.

Hope this answers your questions. -NGP

Jeff, I was able to add the DAR Sticker and the 1776 Sticker to Eleazer's son Jonathan French

He is not listed on the SAR site

Thank you.

Jeff this the DAR records on your mother

I do  not  see  him  listed  but  the  town/colony  certainly  agreed  to  give  him  payment.  Interested  in  joining  the  DAR? you  could  use  him as  your patriot and  submit  your  application  as  a  new  patriot by  proving  your  lineage  to  him. Good  luck  hope  you  will do  that. Ok on  closer reading  I  see  that  you  cannot  join as  it  is  gender  exclusive sorry  for  that  little  mistake

Jeff, Nanette is correct about contacting the DAR database directly for no charge.  If there may be other times that you need further information, I am a Lifetime DAR Member and LOVE to assist.  Feel free to ask for assistance anytime or send me a list of questions.

Hi Tammie,

My mother Sally Anne Sawyer

 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sawyer-6195

was a lifetime member and one of the things I am looking for is her DAR Membership # ( I have her original but it is in a Storage locker in Florida) so I can put that in her Sticker. Actually, I think there are a bunch of ladies in my tree that were members and I would like to add their stickers.

I would also like that info so I can pass the information on to my Daughters, in case they would like to join some day.

I do have another question about a profile in my tree that I think might be of some interest to you DAR ladies.

From talks with my mother years ago (when she was still alive) I remember her getting really excited about proving that Mary (Aldis) Draper was in our family tree. Mother was the member of some "Chapter" in DAR? (Simon Willard ???) and she spent the next couple of days on the Phone and Writing letters to her DAR Friends.

As I have come to learn this Lady was a prominent figure during the Revolutionary War and is someone special in and to the DAR.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Aldis-23

Her profile makes no mention of her revolutionary war contributions or the DAR. I was going to contact the profile manager and ask him if I could work on the existing BIO but I think that is something that would and could be done better by you DAR ladies.
Jeff, I added the DAR Sticker to Mary Aldis’ profile. It does say that Future Applicants Must Prove Correct Service. I have still added the DAR Sticker; I have an ancestor with this on his DAR records, and several people in my family joined under him before 1977.
Jeff,

I cannot locate any records for your mother or her mother in the DAR.  You mentioned that your mother was a Lifetime member, this would lead me to believe that she would most likely have several pins and a ribbon (or ribbons) that she would have worn on the left side of her chest for DAR events.  If you have any of those, or even photos, I would love to view them and perhaps we can determine if we are on the right path.

I did locate information on Mary Alvis Draper for you.  DAR does have a "Patriot" file for her.  Several women used her as their Patriot line.  However, due to changes in requirements, any future applicants must now use the current requirements.

I did find that there is an article for Mary Draper and her service that you can look up:  revolutionary-war.net/mary-draper/

Looking up a chapter for DAR is not simple.  I would need to know what State you mother lived in at that time.

If you would like to contact me via email, feel free. (tammiecochran@yahoo.com)  just put DAR in the message line please.
Hello Tammie,

If there are any Pins or Ribbons then my Sister has those. I will contact her and ask.

Her original aplication would have been under her Maiden Name Sally A Sawyer and in her hometown of Menominee Mi.

We lived all over the place and she was involved in DAR chapters in each. Michigan, Virginia, and Florida.

Let me see what else I can dig up, and thanks for the Email address. I will contact you through that.

I have been working on putting together a basic file of all the Profiles of Patriots in my Tree. Right now I have 17 filled in and three left to go. Once I have those ones done I was going to contact the SAR folks.
