Need updated SAR sticker, and consistency with DAR sticker

Recently, a new DAR ancestor sticker was announced.

This new DAR ancestor sticker is based on the Society Ancestor template.

We need to fix some inconsistencies.

  • Currently there is a NSSAR Patriot Ancestor template, that shows up as a sticker. This should probably be reworked to be based on the Society Ancestor template, just like the DAR sticker.
  • However, the current NSSAR Patriot Ancestor template also places the profile into the NSSAR Patriot Ancestors Category, which is really convenient. Can we keep that?
  • There is a corresponding NSDAR Patriot Ancestors Category. However, the new DAR Sticker, based on the Society Ancestor template does NOT put the profile in that category. Neither does the DAR-grs source template put the profile in that category. Can we change the DAR sticker to also put the profile in that category? Because right now, I have to manually do that on every profile. Basically, can we have some consistency between the DAR and SAR stickers?
  • There will be a lot of profiles to update with a new SAR sticker. Can we then have the bot auto-update the profiles?

Thanks, Eric.

I hope it adds only one, predetermined category. :-)
As far as I know, that is correct, Natalie. Just the one category as described. And I believe that's all it needs to do too.

Hmm, I didn't realize it didn't add it to a category. That would be great if Steven could fix that!

Currently there is a NSSAR Patriot Ancestor template, that shows up as a sticker. This should probably be reworked to be based on the Society Ancestor template, just like the DAR sticker.

The NSSAR sticker has been in place since 2013 and is used on 3,000+ profiles; The method of grouping stickers, such as the Society Ancestor sticker, is new and only been in place since 2019. This is something that can be looked at in the future, and EditBOT used to assist, but is not a high priority right now (and I already have it on the list of templates to review at a later date).

There is a corresponding NSDAR Patriot Ancestors Category. However, the new DAR Sticker, based on the Society Ancestor template does NOT put the profile in that category.

The Category can easily be added (and is now available as of this posting).

Neither does the DAR-grs source template put the profile in that category.

This is another template that is scheduled for review. The template should not be used on any new profiles, since this template is not approved for use and violates the rules for templates (see here and here).

Glad to hear that the NSSAR sticker on the list for review.

Thanks for adding the category to the NSDAR sticker. That will help tremendously.

It's unfortunate that the DAR-grs template is contentious. We need to have an easy way to provide the DAR references as a source, and the DAR-grs template works for that.

I know the pages say that source templates are not approved, but still they exist and they are used. And the last conversation that was had about them was over 4 years ago, which ended with no conclusion either way. There are many pros to source templates, and it doesn't seem like there are any technical cons to source templates. Only some discussion about how it may be hard for new users. I think it makes it more difficult without source templates.
Based on the last discussions I see on source templates, it was not just new users, but existing users who are not very good at templates and all their intricacies that are also prohibiting these from being mainstream. In short, it just makes it harder for the entire community to collaborate when they understand the codes being used.

In either case, the guidelines are in place, so that is what we strive to abide by.

would stand to reason that the new DAR setup would/SHOULD mimic the NSSAR one but s/SAR/DAR.
