Research notes

Mary's death? Henderson-2297 11:39, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

A Mary Junkin had her coffin paid for (6/-) in the Port of Menteith kirk session accounts on the 4 Jul 1801.
Can anyone corroborate that the Jul 1801 coffin payment is actually this Mary Buchanan later Junkin?
Or even better, identify who the references to Mary and Robert junkin receiving relief might be instead?
There is a coffin for a Mary Junkin in Jul 1801 paid for by the parish[3]
Earlier entries eg 22 Jun 1801 refer to both a Mary Junkin & Robt Junkin, Rusky receiving relief of 5/- each.
The entries for "Mary Junkin, Rusky" continue from 1801 back through to at least Jan 1799, ie well before son James was born in Jun 1800 (Family Bible), which rather corroborates husband Peter was still alive at that stage.
However it is more usual for women to be referred to by their birth names in Scottish records, with or without reference to her husband, similar to at least one nearby entry, so these two relief entries may be a coincidence of name and place
IF husband Peter was still alive (some show Peter as dying 1838). why would a wife be receiving relief?
There are no further mention of Junkin through to end of 1804.
