Alphonse passed away on 1 may, 1905 in Rimouski, Québec, and was buried on the 4th. The funeral was conducted by his son, the priest of Saint-Laurent-de-Matapédia, Joseph Eugene Elzéar Matte (1872-1952). His widow and many of his children, in-laws and other members of the community were present.[4]

Sa veuve et plusieurs de ses enfants, beaux-parents et autres membres de la communauté étaient présents.
