Charles Waller was born on 18 January 1802 in Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of Jocelyn Macartney Waller and Elizabeth Willis.
He emigrated from Ireland to Canada with his parents and siblings. When old enough he left Canada and settled in Brooklyn, New York, United States.
Charles married Maria Burgher (the daughter of Nicholas Burgher) on 8 June 1830. They went on to have about 13 children, including the following:
In the 1850 United States Federal Census enumerated on 22 July 1850, Charles Waller (aged 49 and a Painter) was recorded living with his wife Maria Waller (39) and their children Charles Waller (15, a Clerk), Josephine H Waller (14), Maria L Waller (10), William E Waller (9), Edmond Waller (5) and Oscar Waller (10 months) at Hoboken, Hudson, New Jersey[1].
He founded the Williamsburg Gas Light Company, and was actively involved in the Masonic fraternity.
In the 1870 United States Federal Census, Charles Waller (aged 68 and a Gas Fitter) was recorded living with his wife Maria Waller (55) at Brooklyn Ward 13, Kings, New York. Also in the household was their 16 year old daughter Georgiana Waller[2].
His wife Maria died on 17 June 1872. After her death he spent the majority of time with his married daughter Josephine Stanton.
He passed away on 23 January 1885, aged 83, Intestate, and was buried at Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, United States[3][4]. PLOT: Section 4 Lot 70 grave 14
