Biography

Catharine Elizabeth Burgher Waller was born on 8 July 1831 and was baptised on 11 March 1832 at New Dorp, Staten Island, New York City, New York^[1]. She was the daughter of Charles Waller and Maria Burgher.

She married Joseph Russell Thomas circa 1846. They had at least three children:

1. William Russell Thomas (b. 1847)
2. Charles W Thomas (b. 1851)
3. Laura Isabelle Thomas (b. 23 Feb 1858, m. 18 May 1881 George W Richardson, d. 18 Apr 1922)

She lived with her husband and children in Brooklyn, Kings, New York.

Her mother Maria died on 17 June 1872, and her father Charles passed away on 23 January 1885, aged 83.

Her husband Joseph died on 28 November 1896.

In the 1900 United States Federal Census, Katherine E Thomas (aged 70 and widowed) was recorded living with her married daughter Laura Richardson (42) and her husband George W Richardson (49) and their two children Laura I Richardson (18) and George W Richardson Jr (10) at 79th St Bet Lexington Avenue Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York. Also in the household were two servants^[2].

Catharine Elizabeth Burgher Thomas passed away on 6 December 1912, aged 83, and was buried on 10 December 1912 at Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, United States^[3].
