Using the Challenge Tracker for a Source-A-Thon

For the Source-a-Thon, the Challenge Tracker MUST be used in order to quantify any points you have earned. For those who are unfamiliar with it's use, here is a quick tutorial:

1. Once you have added a good source (or 3 or 4) to your profile, remove the {{Unsourced}} banner, and save the profile; you'll see the option for the Challenge Tracker at the top of the profile:

Click the Challenge Tracker button circled in red in the graphic

The next screen may have a list of options, but for this challenge check the box for Source-a-Thon 2023 (it should already be done for you):

Click where the red arrow is pointing. Be sure your WIkiTree ID is appearing.
Leaving a comment is optional and there are some pre-recorded choices to the right of your screen.

Now, wait for it...

You'll need a little Challenge History box to appear at the bottom to be sure your entries were counted by the system. It is highlighted in the following graphic:

The system should have filled in all your information. Now go on to the next one.
Onward and upward!

Unsourced Profiles By State

Here are some profiles you can work on if you like. You can also just select a surname and work on those that are unsourced. If you need a chart for a different state or country, just ask Lucy. She'll be happy to add it for your convenience.

What is the Mid-Atlantic Team?

The Mid-Atlantic Team was created to facilitate participation in the various challenges offered at WikiTree. Originally it was a New York team, but has since expanded to encompass other states of the Mid-Atlantic region. This team stresses quality over quantity. It is also not necessary to confine your efforts to this region alone. In the past we've had members from Alaska, Florida, and Washington state. In fact, your team captain lives in Georgia now!

Some people think it's this.
Others this.
Still others, this.
But, probably more like this.

Connect-A-Thon Information

Register for the July 2022 Connect-A-Thon here!.

There were be Three! Count 'em! Three! Connect-A-Thons in 2022! This was in conjuction with The WikiTree Challenge. 2021 was the "Year of Accuracy" and team members worked together to improve the individual tree branches of a guest star (in the world of genealogy) so that WikiTree would have the mostest, bestest, and ultimately the most accurate information. 2022 will be the "Year of Family Connections" and will feature non-genealogists and their tree branches. The goal is to decrease the number of profiles that are not connected to the main WikiTree. We will be adding relatives to existing profiles. That's it! The link to sign up is below the banner up top. Don't forget that you want to be on the Mid-Atlantic Team! Just mention that when you answer to register.

Unsourced Lists

These lists of unsource profiles are maintained by the Data Doctors Project and are being used as a guide only. Once you've added at least one valid source, save your work. If you have not seen the new save draft/save permanently option, do not be alarmed! Simply scroll down, select adding sources and Full Save: Commit Changes. Now select the Challenge Tracker and the Source-a-Thon check box and Add Action. This is not as complicated as it sounds.

As a reminder, we like to throw around the words valid sources. What are valid sources? They include census records, BMD records/index references, military documents, land documents, wills, etc. Just don't use a user-generated tree, such as Geni or Ancestry as your only source. Year Long Challenge

In 2022, as the headline event of our "Year of Family Connections," we are focused on guest stars who are not genealogists. If we can make discoveries for professional genealogists, what can we discover for non-genealogists? This promises to be fun for everyone.

Challenges are running every other week in 2022. A challenge week is Thursday to Thursday. Each challenge has a G2G thread for registration, announcements and discussions. Everyone is invited to participate, even if they haven't registered, but only those who register have their points counted.

This is a collaborative and competitive challenge. The participants in each challenge week are a team. Awards go to the top-scoring individuals in each challenge week, and to each member of the top-scoring team for the year.

  • Let's make new friends. This is an opportunity to not just collaborate or compete, but to actually work closely together on a common project.

From those of us aboard the Slow Train
Two tortoises, Hertyl and Spertyl, dressed in their spiffy Connect-a-Thon Tuxedo coats, are holding a large picture frame containing an image of a large bowl of candy-coated chocolates (actually they're Australian "Smarties" - older than "M&Ms". Across the bowl is the phrase "Thankls for the snacks (with "snacks" crossed out) err, the 'Thon". Between Hertyl and Spertyl, in the centre top above the picture frame, are the words "Hertyl and Spertyl just want to say".
Hertyl and Spertyl just want to say "Thanks for the 'Thon".

Best wishes from those aboard the Slow Train for the upcoming weekend. Be sure to get plenty of rest, and nourishment!
Two tortoises, Hertyl and Spertyl, are travelling on a train composed of puzzle pieces. Across their bodies floats a ribbon, upon which are the words "whole profile approach". Along the train itself are the words "We get there in the end". The smoke from the "smokestack" is composed of ever smaller images of the Wikitree DNA "tree" logo.

Hi, I am new to the team environment. My father's side of the family is from upstate New York, I would love to join you when then are events.

To be honest, even though I spent my career in IT, I find the posts to be overwhelming to follow. So, my ask is to send me a link to what needs to be done and I will join.

I was only able to do a few profiles because like Meghan we had a lot of unexpected family visiting this weekend. I got started thinking we were doing Tennessee (Why? I haven't a clue!) until I decided to check in on our page and got back on track to Pennsylvania. I hope the few I did count even though they weren't in our area.

Next year! Next Year! Go Team Mid-Atlantic!

Every one counts and almost all of the teams encourage their members to work any where they wish to.

Perhaps the only exception is Musty, Dusty where you have to be -1500 certified to enter their sanctum, (for good reasons).

Thanks, Beulah!

BTW, how do I see the number of sources I was credited for?

You are credited with five. Be aware that only one source gets you credited for a profile. You may add 20 resources and do a page length bio but it only counts as one. This has been a bone of contention for those that do a lot of work before they move on.

There is a link at the top of this page that gives you every bodies contribution numbers by team. It's the same one Star gave me three days ago and is in her answer to me below.
