Draft of Chapter one covers the Benjamin North family of Newtown (Elmhurst), Queens County, NY, up until Benjamin North's death in 1777. I have been working on paragraph one of chapter two for about two years. Covering the same time period of family in the Connecticut 9th regiment of militia. If anyone would like to critique what I have done, I would be happy to send them a copy.

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

A bit of background, I recently decided to redo my tree on Ancestry because of problems with sources. I decided would be cleaner to start over than to clean up the existing tree. However, the magnitude of the task was too daunting to proceed. I like the Idea and rigor of wikitree and see it has an opportunity to clean up my tree. On beginning to enter I have run into several cases where birth and death dates have documents which are different by as little as one day. In some cases I have resorted to entering year only and tagging it as "exact/certain" is that appropriate? I also read where someone made the decision not to allow "Between" dates. The use of Before, or after throws away half of important information. I spent 40 years as a database administrator and in my opinion the correct way to deal with dates is to have two fields. Min date and Max date. On entry you can default max date to min date for convenience, or click exact date to fill it in. on Conversion, you would populate max and min with before and after dates. Estimated dates are more difficult. In my home database I converted on "about" dates to a default range of max and min. I have considered adding a third field for estimated date. But Max and Min dates can be backed up with hard facts.

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
