Biography

George was a Friend (Quaker)

George was born on 12 Apr 1730 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] He was the son of George Soule and Lydia (Howland) Soule.[1] When George was eleven, the family moved from Dartmouth to Dutchess County, New York Colony.[2]

During the mid-Eighteenth century, there developed a movement of members of the Society of Friends from Dartmouth, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, to the Quaker settlements in Dutchess County, New York. Included in this exodus were many Dartmouth Soule and Howland families.

He was granted a certificate to the Swanzy monthly meeting to marry on 17d 11m 1757 [17 Nov 1757].[3]

"George Soule & wife" are recorded as "Heads of Families, Oblong and Nine Partners Circularly, Dutchess, NY" in 1761.[4] There are 2 separate listings for "George Soule & Wife", the other listing most likely referring to his father George (1695-1784).

He died on 29 Jun 1776 in Dutchess, New York.
