Biography

August was born in 1859. He was the son of Christian Scheel and Johanne Cargus. He emigrated from Germany to Canada in 1861 with his parents and 8 other siblings (5 of them half siblings as Johanne was his father's second wife). It must have been a successful blended family as most of the Scheel children remained living near each other with families of their own. August, working as a farmer, married Mary Papke in Arnprior in 1880. She had immigrated with her family in 1874. August and Mary had six children, all born in McNab Township, Renfrew South. August passed away in 1927, three years after his wife and was buried in the Albert Street Cemetery in Arnprior.
