Biography

Johanne was born in 1828. She was the daughter of Unknown Cargus. Johanne married Christian Friedrich Scheel as his second wife and her younger sister Marie Cargus married Carl Streich. The two families emigrated together in 1861 from Germany to Canada. Marie had two children and Johanne had nine children, of which five were step-children. These two farming families settled in McNab Township, Renfrew County, Ontario. In the 1881 census they lived beside each other. Johanne had one more child with Christian, born in Canada. The Scheel children all married and had children. It became quite a huge family. Johanne passed away in 1895 in Arnprior.
