Biagia Quaglino is born and baptized 9 September 1820, the daughter of Filippo Quaglino and Anna Maria Colletto. Her godparents are Lucianus and Lucia Labruzzo.
Biagia marries Giovanni Grizzaffi, a middle class farmer, the son of Nicolo' Grizzaffi and Salvatrice Puccio, on 7 January 1844.[1] Their parents are all living at this time.
Biagia and Giovanni have at least eight children together: two sons named Nicolo' (1844 and 1846), Salvatrice (1849), Anna Maria (1852), Filippo (1855), Giovanna Lucia (1858), Leoluca (1860), and Angela (1863).
The first son named Nicolo' is born 22 October 1844 and baptized the next day, named after Giovanni's father, who dies earlier the same month. His godparents are Antonio Navarra and Innoccenza Cutrera, a married couple.
Nicolo' dies on 27 July 1845 at nine months of age.
The second son named Nicolo' is born and baptized 20 June 1846. His godparents are his maternal uncle Leoluca Quaglino and Maria Felicia Scherma, a married couple. (Nicolo's godparents have a son, Filippo, ten days after this baptism. Giovanni and Biagia stand as Filippo's godparents).
Salvatrice is born 2 May 1849 and baptized the next day, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Vincenzo Lanza and Rosaria Raja, a married couple.
Anna Maria is born 21 August 1852 in via S. Rocco, Corleone. Her mother's age is given as 32 (b. 1820). She is baptized the same day. She is named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Domenico Vinci and Maria Concetta Virgadamo, a married couple.
Biagia's mother, Anna Maria, dies at age 62 (b. 1794) on 7 February 1857. Her father survives her.
Giovanna Lucia is born and baptized Joannam Luciam on 23 May 1858. Her godparents are Giuseppe Virmigliano and Vincentia Marsorana.
Leoluca is born 2 October 1860 in his parents' home in via S. Rocco, Corleone. His birth is reported by the midwife, Francesca Paola De Luca, age 56. He is baptized as Leonemlucam on 2 October 1860. His godparents are Leoluca Cascio and Maria di Palermo. Leoluca Cascio and Giuseppe Cascio, Angela Grizzaffi's future husband, are first cousins, once removed.
Biagia's widowered father, Filippo, dies at age 70 (b. 1791) on 15 June 1861.
According to Angela's civil birth record, she is born April 28, 1863 when Biagia is 40 years old. Based on this, Biagia's birth year is 1823, not 1820 (as in her own baptismal record).
Biagia and her husband Giovanni stand as godparents at least four times:
Filippo Quaglino (1846), son of Leoluca Quaglino and Maria Felicia Scherma
Gaetano Palumbo (1856), son of Giuseppe Palumbo and Carmela Ciravolo
Castrenza (1859), daughter of Leoluca Cascio and Maria di Palermo (Leoluca's godparents)
Liboria Cascio (1869), daughter of Leoluca Cascio and Salvatrice Ligotino. She is the sister of Giuseppe, whom Angela marries in 1880, and the half-sister of Anna Maria and Nicolo's spouses.
