Biography

Lillian A. "Lillie" Morgan was the daughter of Averilla Gilcrease/Gilchrist. Her father was a Mr. Morgan. (See Research Notes.) She was born on or about 08 December 1893, but the date of her birth is in dispute. (See Research Notes.) On the 1900 United States Census, she, her mother and her brother were living in Kaufman County, Texas, in the household of James Mitchell where her widowed mother was the housekeeper.^[1] Her own death certificate of June 1915 does not give a date of birth, but states that she was 21 years, 5 months, 29 days old, which would put her date of birth in December 1893, as well.^[2] A suggestion with source information was sent to the Find A Grave contributor in February 2019 to re-check the date of birth but as of May 20, 2019 there has been no response or change to the date there.

As of the 1910 Census, Lillian's mother had remarried so she was listed as step-daughter in the household of August Deubler. They were living in Blaine County, Oklahoma at that time.^[3]

Lillian married John W. "Jack" Wilson on 05 August 1913 in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.^[4] They had at least one child, Ethel, who was living in the household of her step-grandfather in the 1920 United States Census for Maricopa County, Arizona.^[5]

Lillian A. "Lilly" (Morgan) Wilson passed away on 06 June 1915 of pulmonary tuberculosis. She was only 21 years old. She was buried in Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery located in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.^[2][6]

Research Notes

Date of birth: She was born in December 1895, according to her FindAGrave memorial (which lacks a photo of her actual gravestone)^[6], but that puts her date of birth too close to that of her brother, William McKinley "Jack" (Morgan) Deubler. In the 1900 United States Census, Lillie is said to be age 8, with a date of birth of December 1893 and her brother was listed as age 4 having been born in April 1986.^[1] Her death certificate says she was 21 years, 5 months, 29 days old on the day she died, 06 June 1915, which, based on calculations. would place her date of birth as on or about 08 December 1893.^[2]

It's possible her middle name was Althea, as has been suggested in family trees on Ancestry.com but this needs documentation.^[7][8]

Who was her biological father? There are Ancestry.com Trees with Noah Tipton Morgan and Jackson Morgan recorded as her father and she is linked at FamilySearch.org as the daughter of Noah Tipton Morgan. Neither are listed in any records so far found for her. The theory that Noah Tipton Morgan is her father seems, to me, to be unlikely. The 1900 United States Census records that Lillie's mother, Averilla Morgan, was a widow. According to census records, Noah Tipton Morgan was alive and married to someone else in 1900; he had married Dovie Ray in 1897. Also, the 1910 United States Census Record for Noah Tipton Morgan says that his marriage to Dovie Ray was his first marriage.
