John Deubler was born February 7, 1904 in Oklahoma. According to his World War II Draft Registration Card he was born in Haleville, Oklahoma, but an internet search could not find a town by that name in Oklahoma.[1] He was the son of August Deubler and Averilla Gilcrease.[2][3][4]
When he was 26 years old, he married Juanita E. Thomas on May 10, 1930 in Coconino County, Arizona.[5] (Juanita was the daughter of Edgar C. Whitesitt.[6]) They are enumerated on the 1940 Census for Maricopa County, Arizona. His occupation is listed as Police Officer with the City Police Department.[7] On his World War II Draft Registration card, he lists his occupation as Chief of Police of the city of Phoenix, Arizona. According to his obituary printed in the Arizona Republic on March 16, 1976, he served as a police officer for the city of Phoenix for 18 years, before which he was a Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputy (circa 1923) and was with the United States Justice Department from 1927 through 1931. There are numerous articles in the Arizona Republic which detail the numerous investigations and arrests in which John Deubler was involved. He retired from law enforcement in 1949.[8]
His obituary also mentions he was a pilot with Tex Rankin's barnstorming crew.[8] According to Wikipedia, "Barnstorming was a form of entertainment in which stunt pilots performed tricks...Barnstormers were pilots who flew throughout the country selling airplane rides and performing stunts..."[9]
He passed away Sunday, March 14, 1976.[8][10][11] In addition to mentioning his wife, Juanita, his obituary also says he is survived by step-son Harry Thomas Whitesitt, and two brothers.[8] As far as is known, John had no biological children.
