Research Notes

We do not know what Lillian's last name at birth was, but one name that we have ruled out is that she was the same person as Lillian Maude Ceruti II (Ceruti-85). The birth dates do not match, but they may be cousins. Lillian Maude Ceruti II (Ceruti-85)'s mother, Lillian Wark Ceruti, sailed on the same ship, "S.S. Frances E." from Nassau to Miami on the same day as Lillian Albury, 1 Jun 1917. Both names are listed on the "foreign nationals" manifest. It was discovered that Lillian Wark Ceruti was a naturalized citizen, whose name looks like it was added to the foreign immigration manifest in error, as was noted in handwriting below the printed list.

We don't know yet if Lillian Albury also became a naturalized citizen of the USA, but it appears that she was not a U.S. citizen on 1 June 1917.

Albury is a well established name in the Bahamas.

  • "Florida, U.S., Arriving and Departing Passenger and Crew Lists, 1898-1963 for E. E. Ceruti A3621 - Arriving At Miami, Florida, 1899 - 1948" Lillian Ceruti, age 59, on passenger manifest arriving from Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, in the port of Miami, Florida USA on 2 June 1917, permanent residence Pensacola, Florida, USA. West Indian ancestry and a U.S. citizen through naturalization of her husband. Occupation: Housekeeper. Ancestry.com, [2] Point of contact in the Bahamas: Mrs. Nathaniel French, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, who is Lillian's sister. Ship name: "S.S. Frances E." Name: "E. E. Ceruti." However, the name "EE Ceruti," is not listed in the source document. It is presumed to have been Lillian's husband, Edward Burton Ceruti, Sr.; Gender: Male; Spouse of E. E. Ceruti: Lilian Cer??ti (Ceruti); Description: A3621 - Arriving At Miami, Florida, 1899 - 1948; Catalog Number: 2788508. There is a problem with how this record was listed. It was attributed to "E E Ceruti." However, the name, "E E Ceruti," is not found anywhere on the original manifest document. This record was discovered by accident while searching for information regarding Eva Ceruti, (Ceruti-102). Also on board the ship returning to Miami was Lillian Albury, age 26, married, who may be related by marriage to Claribel French's daughter, Florence French Albury.
