Her parents traveled from Kentucky to Texas in a horse-drawn wagon. They settled north west of Blanket, Brown County, Texas, on the Knudson farm. Clara had nine siblings with her mother and father, three of which passed away at an early age: (1) Clarence - twin of John Carl, (2) James and (3) Nathan. She also had a half-sister after her father died. Her name was Violet Alene Haynes.[3]
On June 8, 1910, Clara married Collis Prentis Haynes, in Beaumont, Jefferson, Texas.[4] By 1920, Clara and Collis were living in Port Arthur Ward 3, Jefferson, Texas.[5] Together, they had a daughter named Joyce B. Haynes and son, Collis Prentice Haynes, Jr.
In 1930, Clara was living in back in her the area of her hometown, Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. At this point she was a widow.[6] Clara then remarried to Joseph Wills in Brownwood, Brown, Texas, on September 23, 1936.[7]
After marrying her husband, Joseph Wills, Clara moved to Central Point North, Jackson,Oregon in 1940, and continued to live there for at least another another decade .[8][9]
Clara died from a heart attack, in Garden Villa Rest Home in El Campo, Texas, on November 8, 1972.[10] She was buried in the Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo, Wharton County, Texas.[11]
