Biography

Private Clayton McQueen served with the United States Army during the Spanish-American War.

William Clayton McQueen was born July 27, 1874, in Blanket, Brown County, Texas.[1] to father, John William McQueen (1847-1894), and to mother, Annie Elizabeth (Polsgrove) McQueen (1856-1937).[2]

On March 30, 1895, William enlisted into the United States Army, [3] and served as a Private in St. Louis, Missouri, in Company B of the 3rd Texas Infantry[4] in the Spanish American War.[5][6][7]

William married Pearl May (last name unknown) on (marriage date) unknown. By 1910, William and Pearl owned a house in Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas, and had a son named Dorsey McQueen, who was six years old.[8]

In 1930, the family had moved and were living in Salinas, Monterey County, California.[9]. William remained in California until his death at age 89, on January 15, 1964, where he is buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.[10]
