Biography

Mabel Clare McQueen was born on January 23, 1890, in Blanket, Brown County, Texas, to father, John William McQueen (1847-1894), and mother, Annie Elizabeth (Polsgrove) McQueen (1856-1937). Her parents traveled from Kentucky to Texas in a horse-drawn wagon. They settled north west of Blanket (Brown County, Texas) on the Knudson farm. Mabel had nine siblings with her mother and father, three of which passed away at an early age: (1) Clarence - twin of John Carl, (2) James and (3) Nathan. She also had a half-sister after her father died. Her name was Violet Alene Haynes.[1]

Mabel was only four years old when her father died on a trip to Edna, Jackson, Texas, USA.[2] In 1900 she was living with her widowed mother and younger siblings.[3]

Mabel met Cornelius "Neeley" Dabney and they married on December 27, 1907, in Blanket, Brown County, Texas.[4] By 1910, Mabel and Neeley were living in Justice Precinct 3, Brown County, Texas, USA, with a six-month old daughter named Cornelia L. Dabney.[5]

Together, Mabel and Neeley had the following children, staying predominently in the Brown County, Texas, area.[6][7][8]:

  1. daughter, Cornelia L. Dabney
  2. son, John Bledsoe (possible twin to Annie) Dabney
  3. daughter, Annie (possible twin to John) Dabney
  4. daughter, Clayra Inez Dabney
  5. son, Chester Layton Dabney

In 1950, Mabel ( age 60) was still living with her husband Neeley (age 69), in Brown County.[9]

Mabel died on January 29, 1983, in her home town of Blanket, Brown County, Texas. [10][11]
