Biography

Edna (King) Gargus was a Missourian.

Edna was born on July 13, 1904, in Missouri, to William and Anna King. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

Edna was enumerated for the federal census on April 21 or 22, 1910. She was 5 years old at the time, and was living with mother Anna, uncle John, and siblings Ellis, Virginia, Harriet, Effie, and Frances, in Jackson Township, Maries County, Missouri. [1]

Edna was enumerated for the federal census on January 21, 1920. She was 15 years old at the time, and was living with step-father Charles Shockley and mother Anna, in Union Township, Crawford County, Missouri. She was attending school and noted to be able to read and write. [2]

Sometime after the birth of her daughter Violet on October 17, 1922, Edna was married to Earl Gargus.

Edna was enumerated for the federal census on April 12, 1930. She was 25 years old at the time, and was living with husband Earl and children Beulah, Pearl, and Chester, in Johnson Township, Washington County, Missouri. She was a homemaker. [3]

Edna was enumerated for the federal census in April 1940. She was 35 years old at the time, and was living with husband Earl and children Beulah, Pearl, Chester, Howard, Evelyn, Robert, and Kathryn in Johnson Township, Washington County, Missouri. She did not work outside the house. [4]

Edna was enumerated for the federal census on April 13, 1950. She was 45 years old at the time, and was living with husband Earl and children Chester, Howard, Evelyn, Robert, and Kathryn in Johnson Township, Washington County, Missouri, with her location being described as "in the hills between Brazil, Cicero, and Indian Creeks." She was a homemaker. [5]

Edna died on February 22, 1991, in Sullivan, Missouri.*[6][7] She was buried in Sullivan IOOF Cemetery in Sullivan, Missouri. [8]
