Biography

Maynard King was born October 5, 1909 in New Hudson, Allegany, New York. He was the son of Louis King and Elvena Mix. ^[1] In 1915, he lived with his parents and siblings in Rushford, Allegany, New York. ^[2]

In 1930, Maynard lived in his father's eight-person household with his young adult brothers and sisters and a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law. 20-year-old Maynard was a carrier for a glass company. ^[3]

On September 12, 1933, Maynard married Florence Lavaun Hollopeter, daughter of John Elliott Hollopeter and Anna Zales, in Limestone, Cattaraugus, New York. Maynard and Florence were employed as mill workers. ^{[4] [5]}

In 1935, Maynard and Florence lived in Bradford, McKean, Pennsylvania, and in 1940, Olean, Cattaraugus, New York. ^[6] They had a son born in 1941. They were later divorced.

Maynard and his second wife, Mary (Swarm), moved to Lawrenceburg, Indiana after Maynard was transferred by his employer, Thatcher Glass and Manufacturing Company, in 1959. He retired from Thatcher after 26 years of employment, first in Olean, then in Elmira, followed by the Lawrenceburg plant.

Maynard died on April 17, 1976 in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, Indiana. ^[7] He was buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olean, Cattaraugus, New York. ^[8]
