Walter -- noted as Waulter in Somerset Parish Records 1616-1618 (TIP)

Compling a list of Walter Clan in The registers of Bruton (Somerset).

From 1614 to 1618 Walter is always recorded as Waulter.     Just the person who recorded names in that time used that Waulter spelling (cross checking baptism, marriage, and death... Waulter wasn't used outside those years)

Thomas:

This appears to be something that you are contributing for the benefit of those who may be searching the Walter line?  Not really a question... for others to help search, then.

I've re-categorized this to The Tree House.  If you'd rather it be in Genealogy Help, that's fine, just move it by using the "update or edit" feature at the bottom of your original question.

Either way, thanks for bring this to the G2G!

Thanks Keith.  Correct, this is just one of those tidbits I've come across.  Still very new to Wikitree and trying to sort all this out as best I could.

Spelling gack then was very bad.Few people could read ,write ,or spell.
Thanks Wayne.   It is interesting as I've seen Wolter, Waulter, Watter, and a bunch of 's variations to the name.    Best one is my Grandmothers grandfather. Augustus Poirier,  French Canadian Trapper, born  around 1840.   Every census he spelled his name, his wifes name, and childrens name differently.   Thankfully we knew where he started and ended up, but no two spellings were the same (Sometimes it can be the census taker who wrote they name down.... Betty White did a great skit on SNL, still cracks me up).
