Profile template suggestion

Hello.

I have inputted a few of my ancestors and I am now working on a standard template for the profiles.

On a system I worked with previously we had features such as pre populated filter tags which showed all children of that person/marriage? Are there any ways of displaying the children in order of date of birth with a tag? Rather than manually entering in the biography?

The same for siblings?

The same for name of the profile? I notice migrating ancestor and sticker auto populate fields. Is there a name or similar tag they use? I'm trying to be more effective.

I have not made a final decision but I'm quite happy with the profile I designed on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Delicata-5 I tried to follow the guidelines of order. Feedback welcome.

I want to make sure I am following the standards here before I add my ancestors (I have thousands of records, which I am manually adding, I want them to all have the same structure).

Thanks,
Curtis

Not sure what happened but Name does work as expected. Ignore that part of the question.

Is there a list of any other short hand functions?

Curtis,

before trying to create templates, why not join the Template Project have discussions with the group and get help to learn the "how to's"

see...  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Templates

I like the idea of having a complete family listed by birth dates in a "family template" to add in the bio.

If you see [[Delicata-5 | Spiriodion Delicata] and click edit then you can see the full formatting. Baptism dates we don't have fields. That would be too much overhead to add to all of WikiTree? I think I saw a thread outlining why we can't have baptism / christening / burial on the data entry?

Name  was born in Tunis, Tunisia on 26th February 1877 to
Antoine Annetto Giuseppe Delicata and his wife Fortunata Rosaria Carmela Attard

I want to change that to simply

Birth Details

Name  married Concette Conception Mercieca on 12th February 1903 in Tunis, Tunisia and they had twelve children together who were all born in Tunisia.

I want to change to below. Which as a template could calculate if they have more than spouse too. (My example, I haven't actually entered the children on the biography!)

Family

I have:

Name  died 16th Aug 1950 in Tunis, Tunisia at the age of 83.

I want to change to

Death Details

from what I have seen Name is a template that is only supposed to be used in other templates, not in profiles...  before you get too deeply into things you should get official answer....

as users, we cannot create templates, only leaders can.

Thank you for clarifying.

I only changed Name on this one profile so far so it isn't a problem to change back. I'll wait and see what the official answer is.

It would be great to have more templates. I understand this is a collaborative site so want others to voice their opinion.

I also need feedback on the standard way to write profiles? I've read the guidelines and it is only the structure and placement that is mandatory? I don't have an issue with that.

Looking to make sure I have the "perfect profile" before I add so many more records. Are there templates not on the list? There was a mention of sysops but I think that is unrelated to my question?
I suggest you look at the help index. You will find answers to a lot of your questions...

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Help_Index
those are the name fields on the profile, not the Name template which is used by other templates, and information on that is probably restricted to leaders since they are the only ones that can create/modify/delete templates
Right Keith.... I didn't realise they were the fields.  And yes, only leaders can work on templates.

ut-oh - I use Name and variations in tons of profiles. I also have the variations in "go-bys". For example, from [this page]:

: is a descendant of Magna Carta surety barons...

I saw Curtis's other G2G post first & have sent an e-mail to Aleš asking him to comment on it when he gets a chance (Aleš is usually the person who tells me when I've done something wrong with a template :).

Cheers, Liz

Aleš is fast! He had already replied but i hadn't seen his e-mail when I posted this. I crafted an answer based on his reply that I posted to the other G2G thread. I think this statement from his reply to me is important to be considered here: "I know it will look strange in gedcom export." I will certainly keep that in mind as I use templates to autofill info in bios in the future!

fyi - I posted separately about using Name and other shortcuts. See https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/557352/know-that-using-name-similar-text-biography-may-not-good-idea

Cheers, Liz
Thank you.
