Suggestion: Add sections in the profile template to enter evidence for connection between parents, spouses and children.

A lot of times we connect parents to children, and people to spouses. It would be great if there was a place on each profile where evidence can be entered. That way, we can see at a glance if there is evidence.

Thank you!

I think there is a box for this, when adding a connection.

I am pretty sure there is for marriages, as I often briefly note where the source came from for the marriage (more detail in the biographies).

Like others have stated the Research Notes heading seem a logical place.

Maybe the Research Notes and Sources sections are fine for that?

I think you're using the word evidence instead of "Sources" which is where the vital records and censuses should be added as a complete citation.

In Wikitree you are supposed (ideally) to cite your sources as inline references in the Biography, which should (ideally) display (BMD and other) events in chronological order.

In case you have separate evidence for birth and connection to parents, it will be proper to cite them like this:

John was born in 1866 in [...].<ref>citation 1</ref> He was the son of [...].<ref>citation 2</ref>

I will strongly recommend that you learn to use named inline references, which is an incredibly powerful tool.

Discussion of obscure and/or conflicting evidence does rightly belong in the == Research Notes == section as others have pointed out.

In addition to using inline citations, I sometimes label sources as in https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Augustin-458 .   This is so that if a reader wants to quickly see what facts are supported, or wants to go directly to sources, they can.

Sources for the parents and their child can and should (if possible) include baptism or birth records for their children.

The source is for the parent and also for the child. Most or many baptism records and or birth records say something like this:

Mary Beth daughter of William and Susanna Anderson was born on xxx and baptised on yyyy at this place. That information is a source for both the parents and the child.

The same is true for a marriage record that says Mary Beth Anderson married on xxxx at this place to John Preston, her parents William and Susanna Anderson, his parents John Preston and Elizabeth Preston (sometimes the mother's maiden name is given.

Death records often have parents' names perhaps more often if a child died young.

These are the records that connect each generation to the one before and after the person profiled. If we don't have this information it can be very easy to mix up people with similar names in close locations

Genealogically Defined

We need at least one piece of evidence that will lead to the identification of his or her parents, one piece of evidence for each spouse(s), and one piece of evidence for each child."

So, examine your profiles.  Can you check off these as complete?

1. A source that will identify the PARENTS?

2. Do you have a source for each SPOUSE?

3. Do you have a source for each CHILD?

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Genealogically_Defined, you will also find this information on other WT help pages.

As an example this FS profile for Jane Elizabeth Ableson Madill   https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LCWK-N5H

has multiple record sources that provide information for the names of her parents, her parents in law and for her children.
