Suggestion no. 891 Missing template (system) [closed]

This suggestion is caused by my own profile, and I think it's related to the "My Ancestors Research Statistics."  The table looks OK.  What do I need to do to fix it?

Here is the Help page link for formatting tables:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Editing_Tips#Tables

I think the table code uses a single brace, followed by a pipe, to open the table (reverse order to close the table).

If you are using the double braces, the system is interpreting that as a template.

Hope that helps you, Julie, as well as our fellow WikiTreers who may be having the same problem!!

Lindy, it is all Greek to me!  I took out the entire table code, I think.  I didn't see any closing table code, if I understand you. I guess I'll find out what happens next--i.e. if I've now caused another problem yet to be revealed.

If other people have the same problem, I hope they will add to this thread, especially if they've addressed their suggestion.

Thank you for the link.  I doubt I'm the only one who finds it somewhat beyond my current comprehension.  It definitely would be useful to take some time to study it (like a day!).

The table code starts with

{|

and ends with

|}

is what I was saying.

Templates use

{{

and

}}

- they may look similar.

{|table|}

{{template}}

OK, so now, as far as I can tell, I have neither the table code nor the template code.  But my table still looks the same on my profile.

Edit:  I see the table code now.  It was always there.  The table starts with "{|" and ends with "|}."  The "{{table}}" was also there, but I've removed it.

If you copied the code from this page - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:My_Ancestors_Research_Statistics_template - then you have the table code.

However, that code appears to include a template code ( {{table}} ) within it.

Hopefully, SJ can let us know what is causing the problem.

By the way, Lindy, I looked at the coding again and it's not as confusing as I thought.  I might even be able to build my own table some day, something I'd not imagined was within my capabilities!  Thanks for the formatting link.

Add data doctors as a tag and DBE-891.

We can't see how you have it coded, obviously, but it looks like you have 'Table' between squiggly template lines, which is probably causing the problem. I am not sure the purpose of using the word like that.

Linda, I thought you'd be the one to answer this question!  I went to my profile and took out {{table}}.  It didn't seem to change anything.  And I have no idea of the purpose of most of the stuff in the table--I just copied it!

I got the format from SJ Baty, and the {{table}} is in his instructions.  I guess I should let him know it's causing a problem.  I've sent him a message.
See if he has a table on his profile and if he has a suggestion like yours does.  He might have removed it but not changed the directions.  You probably have to wait for next round of suggestions.  It might still show this week if they were being started yesterday

I believe this is SJ's free-space with instructions for the table Julie used on her profile:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:My_Ancestors_Research_Statistics_template

His profile doesn't seem to have the db_suggestion 891 (or any other - wow!!)

I hope we will see what he has to say.  Living in Spain, he may be asleep by now.
I sent SJ a note to please review this post since we can't see his profile code either, so we don't know if his profile has the 'possible template' coding, as stated in the Free Space page.

I also don't know that Suggestions are included for every page on wikitree unless a change is made to a page or a related page, since I have found suggestions on pages that haven't been edited since 2015 and the Suggestion was not on the previous week's suggestion.
Not really sure how that got in there as it is not in my own profile where I copied the code.for the free space page. I can only assume it was an copy and paste remnant from a previous copy. It has been removed from the space page.

The problem was indeed in {{table}} template, that you removed. That code was copied initially from wikipedia and its intent there was to centrally redesign the look of all tables. That is no longer necessary, since the same can be achieved with a change to CSS definition and this old system is redundant. It doesn't have any visual effect on the page, since it is used in control part of the table, but the servers still have to check each time a page is rendered if that template exists. It got copied around wikitree a lot and I removed many instances, but it is still used on 100 pages and new ones occasionally appear. Here are all of them.

Thank you.
I just knocked usage down to 54 by handling all the open profiles and pages.
Thanks, Steve.

I corrected the other 50, so now it is not used on wikitree and will not get copied around.
Excellent! Thanks Aleš!
