Hi Wikitreers,

Private Henry Simpier at the age of 18 years enlisted with the 85th New York Infantry Regiment on 9/21/1864 at Troupsburg, NY as a Private. Henry mustered into "A" Co. NY 85th on  9/27/1864 and was discharged on 2/20/1865.

He is the only U.S. Civil War veteran to have this LNAB as my great great grandfather Joseph Simpier (1832 - 1912) served under the alias name of Charles Robashaw in the 81st New York Infantry Regiment Company F.

I would like to connect him and see how he is related to the family tree.

1). Did Henry get married or have children?

It appears he is buried in Wisconsin so apparently he made it out to the Wisconsin area and I also am assuming that would of been for farming

Any collaboration in getting him connected and finding better sources is appreciated

Thank you

Needs publisher extra look up for obit “Stevens Point Journal from Stevens Point, Wisconsin Page 3” see link https://www.newspapers.com/image/250787376/?article=33864de9-8e71-4f1d-b446-3c37e0521480&terms=sim

Note: I have 4 direct ancestors in my genealogy who served in the U.S  Civil War and to my surprise there are so many uncles and cousins I’m not sure if I can count them all smiley

Hi Giada,

Thank you. It does appear to be the correct Henry Simpier on familysearch. I’d like to tie in their sources to match an obit but I’m almost 100% sure it’s correct. They have the correct findagrave source. I also found other Simpier’s buried their and his wife it appears with a obit on her memorial see link https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/37118423/cordelia-simpier

I think the Pennsylvania Simpier group ties into the tree somewhere starting here somehow; see Paul Néhémie Simpier (1820) his descendants seem to have lived in McKean county, Pa.

It’s a puzzle as always on my French side and the name alt spellings make it more challenging which is why I started the name study which does show the original Champoux connection.

Edited: typos fixed

No problem. I can understand... I've been searching for my ancestors (I'm Italian) and creating my tree for 2 months already and it's a real challenge for me too when it comes to their first names...I l'm really wondering if they all went by nicknames as their names are different in the various sources
My family was able to trace my Italian roots to Catania Italy a cousin did a great job on that research!

The 1870 shows Henry was keeping Hotel. We have the Hotel stories in the family so I believe they were into the hotel business. Joseph simpier my gg also had a saloon from what we have gathered. So for Henry popping up as “Keeps Hotel” sparked my interest!

These Wisconsin Simpier’s are fascinating the fishing stories of Henry in the clips and the ball games son Kern attended where he passed etc…still researching this group!

Checking Ancestry: The 1860 Census of Olean, NY, lists a Joseph Simpier, 34 or 39, livery keeper, b. Canada married to Harriet, 32. They have a son, Henry, 14. b. Pennsylvania.

Does that sound like the same person to you? Sounds likely to me. Likely enough to follow the trail.

In the 1855 New York State Census: Joseph Simpier, 36, b. France (I'm wondering if French Canada), liveryman; Harriet, 25, b, Cattaraugus; Henry, 10, b. Pennsylvania; Joseph, 6 mo.

Oh that sounds right. I wonder if Paul Néhémie Simpier (1820) who had a son named Jean Baptiste Napoléon Simpier (1846 - 1936) had another named Joseph. This Simpier family group ended up in Port Allegany, McKean, Pennsylvania.

My direct lineage is through Joseph Simpier (1832 - 1912)  who went to Michigan then to Washington state

This is gonna take some research laugh all the help is appreciated
