Does anyone recognize this reference? [closed]

Hello!

In the Bürgerbuch for St. Gallen, I have found an entry for my ancestor Habacuc Guldin (born 12 Jun 1577), but there is a symbol and a note which I cannot interpret. Can anyone help?

I recieved the following answer today from the Archive in St. Gallen. The reference is to the "Historical Biographical Lexikon of Switzerland".

Hi Gary, as for the symbol, it looks like a remitance to a foot note, like using an *. My german is rusty but the first word seems to be a form of the verb "sehen" meaning see / view. So, in short, ir seems they are relating that person to another event registered on other book and/or pages.

I'm sorry I wasn't clearer in my question. My German is actually quite good and you are absolutely right: the footnote reads "siehe HB2S IV, 13", which means "see HB2S IV, 13". My problem is that I can't figure out what the HB2S (or 25?) means, so I don't know where to look next!

I also read "siehe HB2S IV, 13" and also don't know hat it means. Maybe "Heimatbuch", also meaning the Bürgerbuch?
I don't know if the next line after the note is refering to the same thing or is an own note. I read "Leonh. Hubers Taufbch" (Leonhard Huber's Taufbuch ?). Taufbuch would be the book with baptisms. But I don't know who Leonh. Huber is.

Good idea, you should try book H of the Bürgerbücher and all other volumes of them that could fit with volume IV, page 13.

I googled Leonhard Huber and found an "Obervogt" (chief bailif): http://scope.stiftsarchiv.sg.ch/detail.aspx?ID=52467
I don't know if it's the same person as here: https://www.hfls.ch/humo-gen/family/1/F122566?main_person=I343767
So if the mentioned Leonhard Huber was the same person as this "Obervogt", he might have noted some sort of protocols or documents. I searched in the online archive of Staatsarchiv St. Gallen, but couldn't find anything fitting (but lots of documents in the period of 1500-1660)

thanks for your helpful ideas! I enjoyed the FamilyTree piece. When I visited the Archive in St. Gallen in 2020, the archivist was very, very helpful. So in this case I decided to write him directly and see if he could help my track down the detailed information. I'm pretty sure that the symbol next to Habacuc means that his citizenship in St. Gallen was revoked (he converted to Catholism, took the name "Paul" and became a Jesuit professor in Rome). I'm hoping to track down details about whether he had a wife and child at the time, so maybe the referenced document will help. Also trying to figure out how to search for the similar "citizen registration book" for Bern for 1635....

BTW - I finally figured out some more abbreviations that had me stumped: looked like gbr, turned out to be "7br", "8br" and "9br" for September, Oktober and November! Had you seen that in German-language archives? Does the Switzerland / Germany / German project have a list of abbreviations somewhere?

I flipped through volume H - it contains family names beginning with H, but I didn't see anything which looked like it corresponded to the Guldin reference. Thanks anyway!
