John Hercules Mudgett (1840 - 1893) “Burned to Death”

Hi Wikitreers,

While researching the Mudgett lineage as it relates to Arthur William Mudgett (1883 - 1951) it appears John passed away tragically “Burned to death in hotel nests“

The terminology is a bit confusing what is a “hotel nests” it needs clarifying. Also what hotel? Name of establishment?  It must of been in the headlines?

Note: The brother Hollis A Mudgett (1841 - 1914) took his own life it appears and brother Charles Edison Mudgett (1851 - 1926) died of Influenza maybe the Spanish flu but seems after the dreaded pandemic.

Addendum: Mudgett in this lineage still needs connecting to the main tree and his wives added with maiden names

Any collaboration is appreciated

Thank you

Hotel Nests might have been the name of the hotel. Checking a directory for that town might give you a clue.

There are a couple of news items regarding John's death in Vermont. One says the hotel was the Vermont Hotel owned by A. G. West. Perhaps "nests" and West" was confused.
