A Classic in the Tales of the Civil War

Per his Wikipedia: William Scott (April 6, 1839 – April 17, 1862) was a Union Army soldier during the American Civil War. He was the "Sleeping Sentinel" who was pardoned by Abraham Lincoln and memorialized by a poem and then a 1914 silent film.

A brave soldier of the 3rd Vermont Co. K., who needs connecting! A intriguing story!

Why is Scotland tagged? Parents are born in US.
I removed the tag but it’s possibly relevant for his father who per 1850 census has Scotland as birth of course more research is needed to confirm as the 1860 census contradicts and shows birthplace as Vermont.

Andrew, the Scott family is connect through Thomas' spouse. I've added the children but leaving it to you to add military categories and stickers.

The Civil War decimated the family.  Of nine children (8 sons) four sons died in the Civil War, one never married, one died young, and the two who married had no male children.

Thank you Andrew! ... and it gets better.  I'm following the 1850 Vermont census where George Scott, Noah Emory, and Thomas Scott are on the same page.  George married Noah's daughter.   I think George and Thomas are possible brothers (10-yr age difference). George's parents are named, as is his immigration.  Need to find same for Thomas.

Very tragic losses during the Civil War era! I’ve updated the civil war brothers but can be improved upon. Good collaboration. Scottish roots it appears!  laugh
