2023 WikiTree Challenge 11: The week has ended to research for the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KYGS) [closed]

Hello WikiTreers!

In each WikiTree Challenge we partner with another group in the worldwide genealogy community. Together we research seven degrees of connections for seven starting people chosen by our partner.

Challenge #11 was a lot of fun! Our partner was the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KYGS). They are an enthusiastic group of genealogists and family researchers who first came together in 1973 -- 50 years ago!  The first president, Charles Edwin Shelby, considered Kentucky one of the more important research centers in the country. Their membership has continued to grow every year.

Our week began Thursday, June 22, at noon EDT (4pm UTC) and ended June 29, at noon EDT. You didn't need any particular skills to participate, so everyone was welcome to join us.

Discoveries, questions, and bounty claims were posted under the seven starting profiles (comments at the top are hidden once read).  We chatted in Discord, and were excited to see the encouragement and collaboration there.

We rocked this week!

WooHoo Judith! Way to go!
Judith Congratulations, way to go!
I worked on Sarah Burns Pennington for a while, but need to stop. I found a findagrave link that looks like it could be her, but I don't believe she was the wife of Ephriam Pennington V as linked.

Maybe someone else can take a shot at this!
I found some information on Sarah Burns in North Carolina with the Penningtons. Listed on her profile page. After looking at several lines of Pennington's, I believe the FIND A GRAVE is the worng Sarah. There was a Sarah Sweeten that Married an Abel Pennington and they moved from North Carolina, to Georgia, then Alabama. I believe this person got this mixed up with Sarah burns especially if she had a son in Kentucky.

I did find an Ephriam from a Brother Benjah of Ephriam 5 who had a son Ephriam born 1747, This is in the same area as Sarah Burns and could easily be mixd up after reading the Pennington book and different lineages. The 1747 one moved from NC to KY. He did have a son named Aaron.

Where is the proof WIlliam's mother is Sarah Burns? I never saw that.

The only proof I have is listed on the Quaker Meeting minutes of the Sarah Burns marrying a Pennington at Unity church in NC.

This one will take time. Can someone verify the William connection?
Thanks for looking at this Kelly. Do you still need further answers on that connection?
Yes, I know it is too late for the KY project, but this profile needs work. I looked at all of her son William's supposed brothers of his yesterday and half of them were not properly sourced. So I am going to continue to take a look at them, I think they are all related, if not brothers they could be cousins.

I have not connected her to the world tree yet, but have added a lot of information concerning her *paternal grandfather and her father’s many half-siblings

Added wife of brother Calvin---Anna Ray Turner Jones Bolden https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Turner-46935 plus added Anna's father Albert Turner https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Turner-46936 and connected Albert to his parents already in tree--Alex Turner Sr. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Turner-9762 and Gessie Henson https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Henson-944

I just added a more detailed birthdate to her mom Sarah Frances Jones along with information from the 1930 Us Census. It included Odell, her father's grandmother Annie. Although someone had added Annie before I got there I thought it might be important as she was born in 1860 Georgia

Thank you Larry!! I appreciate the work on those lines!

Thank you Judith as well. And congratulations on the connection!!

That is great Jeri!!
William Judge Jones father: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jones-136893

Apparently he was a part of the U.S. Colored Troops too
Added more to bio of Ferguson-22065, Alberta Odell's Jones Grandmother.  I have spent time analyzing all the relatives present in the various census records.
On Ferguson-22066 (Lewis Ferguson) (Alberta Odell Jones 2nd Great-Grandfather)Added more sources, expanded the bio to include children and reference to Grandson.
Added bio to Rachel Ferguson (Unknown-647123) and added several census sources.
Thank you for all of your valuable research Jeri!!
